AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 22 (a) of
Article 51 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1956 Supplement),
title "Juries", sub-title "Qualification and Selection of Jurors",
amending the law concerning the compensation of jurors in Anne
Arundel County.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 22 (a) of Article 51 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1956 Supplement), title "Juries", sub-title "Qualification and Selec-
tion of Jurors", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:
22. Pay and mileage.
(a) Jurors in [Anne Arundel and] Washington [counties] county
shall receive six dollars per day, in Dorchester County, seven dollars
and fifty cents per day, in Worcester County, seven dollars and fifty
cents per day; in Anne Arundel County, twelve TEN dollars per day,
and no extra allowance shall be given either for mileage or overtime
in Anne Arundel County; and in all other counties, except Allegany,
Baltimore, Frederick and Wicomico counties, five dollars per day for
each and every day they shall attend the several courts of this State
as jurors and fifteen cents for each mile over five miles for going to
and returning from the court, once in each term, to be paid by the
counties, respectively, in which courts are held. Jurors in Baltimore
City shall receive such compensation as shall be provided in the
ordinance of estimates of said city each year. In Baltimore County,
jurors shall receive per diem compensation in such amounts as shall
be set, from time to time, by the judges of the circuit court of Balti-
more County. Jurors in Frederick County shall receive at least eight
dollars per day for each and every day they shall attend the circuit
court of Frederick County as jurors and a reasonable amount, in the
discretion of the county commissioners, for each mile going to and
returning from the court.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957. JANUARY 1, 1958.
