AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 592 of
of the "Charter and Public Local Laws of Baltimore City", (1949
Edition—being Article 4 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland), title "Baltimore City", sub-title "Police Commis-
sioner", sub-heading "Special Fund", including former members
of the Department of Maryland State Police under the provisions
accrediting retired Baltimore Police Officers with retirement
benefits for former service in other organizations.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 592 of the "Charter and Public Local Laws
of Baltimore City", (1949 Edition—being Article 4 of the Code
of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Baltimore City", sub-title
"Police Commissioner", sub-heading "Special Fund", be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments, to read as follows:
592. Any officer or employee of the said Police Department who is
eligible to receive retirement payments under the provisions of this
sub-title and! who prior to his service in the said Department was a
member of another pension or retirement system operated by the
Mayor and City Council of Baltimore, or was a member of the Depart-
ment of Maryland State Police, shall be credited for all the purposes
of this sub-title with the time so spent as a member of such other pen-
sion or retirement system or as a member of the Department of
Maryland State Police. Such officer or employee shall receive such
credit only if he pays into the Special Fund established under this
sub-title the amount of money which would have been payable by
him thereto if for such period he had been such an officer or employee
of the Police Department. Provided, however, if such officer or em-
ployee was a member of the Employees' Retirement System of Balti-
more City, he shall receive such credit only if he pays into the Special
Fund all of his contributions or payments to the said Employees'
Retirement System, together with the interest thereon up to the
time when he withdrew his contributions, and in the event such
contributions have not been withdrawn, then such contributions, to-
gether with the accumulated interest, shall be paid into the Special
Fund of the Police Department.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.
