Supplement), title "Unemployment Insurance", sub-title "Benefits",
relating to the computation of the "weekly benefit amount" and
"allowance for dependents", and to certain other weekly benefits
under unemployment insurance.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 3 (b), (c) and (d) AND SECTIONS 4 (E) (1) AND
4 (E) (2) of Article 95A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951
Edition and 1956 Supplement), title "Unemployment Insurance Law",
sub-title "Benefits", be and they are repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

(b) (1) Weekly Benefit Amount.—An individual's "weekly bene-
fit amount" [shall be computed by dividing the total of the wages
paid him for insured work in that calendar quarter of his base period
in which such total wages were highest, by twenty-six (26), and by
carrying the resulting quotient to the nearest even dollar, except that
if said quotient ends in .50, it shall be carried to the next higher even
dollar. Provided, that such weekly benefit amount shall in no event
be less than Six Dollars ($6.00) nor more than Thirty Dollars
($30.00).], and "allowance for dependents" shall be determined by
applying the total of wages paid him for insured work in that calendar
quarter of his base period in which such total wages were highest to
column A in the "Schedule of Benefits" set forth below. Upon deter-
mination as to the division of said "Schedule of Benefits" set forth
below. Upon determination as to the division of said Schedule for
which such individual's high quarter wages qualify, the weekly bene-
fit amount shall be the amount shown on the same line in column B,
and the amount of allowance for dependents shall be the amount
shown on the same line in column D, E, F, or G, depending on the
number of dependents for which allowances are payable.
Provided, if a claimant has not earned qualifying wages, as re-
quired in Section 4 (a) SECTION 4 (E) of this Act, for the weekly
benefit amount shown in the schedule of benefits on the basis of his
earnings in the calendar quarter of the base period in which his
earnings were highest, but did earn qualifying wages for the next
lower division on said schedule, he is to be considered eligible for
benefits as shown in said next lower division.
