CHAPTER 319
(Senate Bill 384)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 5 of
Article 96½ of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition),
title "Veterans", sub-title "Relief Fund", removing therefrom an
obsolete reference to World War II.
Whereas, In Section 5 of Article 96½ of the Code, there is a
reference to the "present World War", this reference from its con-
text clearly being to the Second World War; and
Whereas, the reference now is entirely obsolete and should be re-
moved from the Code; now therefore
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 5 of Article 96½ of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Veterans", sub-title "Relief Fund", be and it
is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as fol-
lows:
5. The Maryland Veterans Commission shall assist Veterans or
their dependents who are or may be entitled to aid from the United
States Government, pursuant to Federal legislation for the benefit
of Veterans and their dependents, in preparing and presenting their
claims to the proper Federal authorities and agencies, and in secur-
ing and expediting action thereon. The Commission shall use its ef-
forts to relieve and prevent congestion of such claims, and cause,
as far as possible, every Veteran and dependents of any Veteran,
to receive promptly and regularly the maximum relief and benefit
to which they are, or may become entitled to, under the Federal law.
The word "Veteran", as used in this section, includes any indi-
vidual who served on active duty in time of War, Campaign or Ex-
pedition, in the Army, Navy or Marine Corps of the United States,
[including the present World War,] and who has received an honor-
able discharge from such service or a certificate of satisfactory com-
pletion of such service.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.
