CHAPTER 252
(House Bill 238)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 9 of
Article 13 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition),
title "Bills of Exchange and Promissory Notes", sub-title "Legal
Holidays", changing the designation of November 11 from "Armis-
tice Day" to "Veterans' Day".

Whereas, In the listing of the various legal holidays in the State
of Maryland, the eleventh day of November is still referred to as
"Armistice Day", and

Whereas, This day in other states and by the Federal Government
is now generally referred to as "Veterans' Day", and

Whereas, It is highly desirable that the State of Maryland adopt
the new designation formally in honor of the many thousands of
veterans of the armed services who have contributed so much to
their state and their nation; now, therefore,

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 9 of Article 13 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Bills of Exchange and Promissory Notes",
sub-title "Legal Holidays", be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

9. The following days in each and every year, namely the first
day of January, commonly called "New Year's Day"; the 12th of
February, known as "Lincoln's Birthday"; the 22nd of February,
known as "Washington's Birthday"; the 25th day of March, known
