title "State Department of Public Welfare", sub-title "Board of
Welfare", correcting an error in a cross reference contained in
said section.

Whereas, In Section 11 of Article 88A of the 1951 Code, there is a
cross reference to Section 82 of the 1949 Edition of the Baltimore City
Charter; and

Whereas, This cross reference is in error since it should be to Sec-
tions 142—156, inclusive, of the 1949 Edition of the Baltimore City
Charter; and

Whereas, In the original enactment of this section, as found in
Chapters 99 and 240 of the Acts of 1939, the reference was to Sec-
tions 203A—203Q, inclusive, of a former edition of the Baltimore
City Charter, which sections now are in substance the same as Sec-
tions 142—156, inclusive, in the 1949 Edition of the Charter; and

Whereas, It is desirable to make this correction in order that
future editions of the Code may contain the correct cross reference;
now, therefore

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 11 of Article 88A of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "State Department of Public Welfare", sub-
title "Board of Welfare", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:

11. The Director of Public Welfare may appoint such employees as
a proper performance of its duties may require, as provided, from
time to time, in the Budget. The appointment and removal of all paid
personnel under this Article shall be governed by the provisions of
Article 64A of the Code of Public General Laws of Maryland, but in
the case of the Department of Public Welfare of Baltimore City,
[Section 82] Sections 142 to 156, inclusive, (1949 Edition, as
amended) of the Baltimore City Charter shall govern. Provided, how-
ever, that the Board of Public Welfare may prescribe the number,
salaries and minimum qualifications of the personnel engaged in the
administration of the activities of the State Department of Public
Welfare and of the local Boards of Welfare as are financed in whole
or in part by the State.

Sec 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.
