CHAPTER 846
(House Bill 761)

AN ACT to add Section 18 to Article 88C of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1951 Edition), title "State Planning Commission", to
follow immediately after Section 17 thereof and to be under the
new sub-title "Urban Planning", authorizing the State Planning
Commission to provide certain planning assistance to any city or
other municipality in this State upon request and relating generally
to the exercise of such powers.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 18 is hereby added to Article 88C of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title "State Planning Commission",
to follow immediately after Section 17 thereof and to be under the
new sub-title "Urban Planning", and to read as follows:

Urban Planning

18. (a) To facilitate urban planning in cities and other munici-
palities, the State Planning Commission is hereby authorized to
provide planning assistance, which includes but is not limited to
surveys, land use studies, urban renewal plans, technical services
and other planning work, to any city or other municipality in the
State upon its request. The Planning Commission and any metro-
politan, regional or joint planning body heretofore or hereafter
created pursuant to law are further authorized to perform similar
planning work in metropolitan or regional areas within the terri-
torial jurisdiction of such planning bodies, provided that the Plan-
ning Commission shall not perform such planning work with respect
to a metropolitan or regional area which is under the jurisdiction
for such planning purposes of a metropolitan regional or joint
planning body, except at the request or with the consent of the
respective metropolitan, regional or joint planning body.

(b) The Planning Commission and metropolitan, regional and joint
planning agencies are authorized to accept and expend grants from
the Federal Government and other public or private sources, to con-
tract with reference thereto, and to enter into other contracts and
exercise all other powers necessary to carry out the purposes of
this section.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.
