CHAPTER 820
(House Bill 878)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sub-section (a)
of Section 22 of Article 51 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1956 Supplement), title "Juries", sub-title "Qualification and
Selection of Juries"; providing for an increase in pay for jurors

in Caroline County, KENT AND QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTIES
to $7.50 per day.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sub-section (a) of Section 22 of Article 51 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1956 Supplement), title "Juries", sub-title "Quali-
fication and Selection of Juries", be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments; to read as follows:

22. Pay and mileage.

(a) Jurors in Anne Arundel and Washington counties shall receive
six dollars per day?; in Dorchester, KENT, QUEEN ANNE'S
[County] and Caroline Counties, seven dollars and fifty cents per
day; in Worcester County, seven dollars and fifty cents per day;
and in all other counties, except Allegany, Baltimore, Frederick
and Wicomico counties, five dollars per day for each and every
day they shall attend the several courts of this State as jurors
and fifteen cents for each mile over five miles for going to and
returning from the court, once in each term, to be paid by the
counties, respectively, in which courts are held. Jurors in Balti-
more City shall receive such compensation as shall be provided
in the ordinance of estimates of said city each year. In Baltimore
County, jurors shall receive per diem compensation in such amounts
as shall be set, from time to time, by the judges of the circuit court
of Baltimore County. Jurors in Frederick County shall receive at
least eight dollars per day for each and every day they shall attend
the circuit court of Frederick County as jurors and a reasonable
amount, in the discretion of the county commissioners, for each mile
going to and returning from the court.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1,1957.
