CHAPTER 789
(House Bill 618)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 24 (a) of
Article 17 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1956 Supplement),
title "Clerks of Court", sub-title "General Duties of Clerks", and
to add new Section 24 (d) AND NEW SECTION 24 (E) to said
Article and sub-title of said Code, to follow immediately after Sec-
tion 24(c) thereof; providing for the salary of the clerks of the
law, equity and criminal courts of Baltimore City AND OF THE
CIRCUIT COURTS OF THE SEVERAL COUNTIES.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 24 (a) of Article 17 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1956 Supplement), title "Clerks of Court", sub-title "General
Duties of Clerks", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments; and new Section 24 (d) be and it is AND NEW SEC-
TION 24 (E), BE AND THEY ARE hereby added to said Article
and sub-title of said Code, to follow immediately after Section 24 (c)
thereof; and all to read as follows:
24.
(a) Amount of Salary.—The clerk of each of the circuit courts of
this State, [including the circuit court] in each county [and the
criminal and law and equity courts of Baltimore City] shall be en-
titled to receive annually a salary of not less than $4,500.00 and not
more than $9,000.00 $12,000.00 to be fixed and determined in each
instance by the Board of Public Works of this State on the basis of
the relative volume of business and receipts in each such office. Each
clerk of the court shall be entitled to the salary fixed and no more.
24 (d) The clerks of each of the law and criminal and equity
courts of Baltimore City shall be entitled to receive annually a salary
of $12,000.
(E) THE CLERK OF THE CIRCUIT COURT FOR ANNE
ARUNDEL COUNTY SHALL BE ENTITLED TO RECEIVE AN-
NUALLY A SALARY OF NOT LESS THAN $7,500.00 NOR MORE
THAN $9,000.00.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall not apply to
the present terms of office of the aforesaid but shall be effective upon
the term of office next succeeding.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.
