CHAPTER 773
(House Bill 402)

AN ACT to repeal sub-section 77 (a) of Article 9 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Charles
County," sub-title "County Commissioners," as said section was
last amended by Chapter 290 of the Acts of 1953, and to enact a
new sub-section 77 (a) in lieu thereof, to stand in the place and
stead of the section so repealed, and to add new Section 77A to said
Article and sub-title of the Code, to follow immediately after Sec-
tion 77 thereof, relating to the compensation of the County Com-
missioners of Charles County and to a County Manager for Charles
County, his salary, powers, and duties
THE APPOINTMENT AND
SALARY OF A FULL-TIME CHAIRMAN OF THE COMMIS-
SIONERS AND RELATING TO THE OFFICE OF THE COM-
MISSIONERS.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That sub-section 77 (a) of Article 9 of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Charles County," sub-title
"County Commissioners," as said section was last amended by
Chapter 290 of the Acts of 1953, be and the same is hereby repealed
and a new sub-section 77 (a) be and the same is hereby enacted in
lieu thereof, to stand in the place and stead of the section so repealed,
and to add new Section 77A to said Article and sub-title of the Code,
to follow immediately after Section 77 thereof, and to read as follows:

77.

(a) The Chairman of the County Commissioners of Charles County
shall receive an annual compensation of $3,000, and the other Com-
missioners shall receive an annual compensation of $2,400 each, said
compensation shall be for their services
AS SUCH COMMISSIONERS
and the Commissioners shall be allowed no mileage. SAID COMMIS-
SIONERS SHALL BE IN THEIR OFFICES FOR THE TRANSAC-
TION OF BUSINESS ON TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY OF
EACH WEEK, EXCLUDING LEGAL HOLIDAYS.

77A. The County Commissioners are hereby authorized IN THEIR
DISCRETION to appoint a person to be the County Manager of
Charles County. He shall be a person properly qualified for the

office of County Manager and shall receive such compensation and

have such powers and duties as the Commissioners shall determine.

ONE MEMBER OF THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AS CHAIR-
MAN OF THE COMMISSIONERS, WHO SHALL BE A FULL-
TIME COMMISSIONER AND WHO SHALL RECEIVE IN AD-
DITION TO THE COMPENSATION PROVIDED FOR BY LAW,
THE ADDITIONAL SUM OF $2,600 ANNUALLY.

Sec. 2. The compensation provided for in SECTION 77 (A) OF
this Act shall not apply to the Commissioners in office on the effective
date hereof, but shall take effect with the next term of office.
