election as elected to a seat in the Senate or House of Delegates shall
be allowed any salary, mileage or other compensation, unless the
party so contesting shall establish his right to such seat.

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTORS

153.    Right of Suffrage and Conduct of Election. Each citizen of
this State entitled to vote for Delegates to the General Assembly shall
have the right to vote for the whole number of electors as provided in
Section 154. The Presidential electors of the candidates for President
and Vice-President who receive the highest number of votes shall be
declared to be elected as said electors, and shall be deemed so ap-
pointed. The said election shall in all respects be conducted as other
elections, except as otherwise provided in this Article, and the re-
turns thereof made and canvassed as hereinbefore directed.

154.   Election by General Ticket. On the day fixed by law of the
United States for choice of President and Vice-President of the
United States there shall be elected by general ticket as many electors
of President and Vice-President as this State shall be entitled to
appoint. The names of the candidates for the office of electors of
President and Vice-President of the United States shall not be printed
on the ballot, but in lieu thereof the names of the candidates of each
political party for the office of President and Vice-President shall be
printed thereon. A vote for said candidates for President and Vice-
President shall be deemed and counted as a vote for each of the
Presidential electors of said party filed according to the provisions of
this Article.

155.  Vacancies Among Electors. Upon the meeting of the persons
returned elected as electors of President and Vice-President, or of
as many of said persons as may attend on the day appointed by the
Constitution and laws of the United States, the said electors who are
present, before proceeding to perform the duties reposed in them,
shall fill any vacancy which may exist in the said college of electors
at such meeting, whether such vacancy be occasioned by absence or
otherwise. The said person or persons so appointed to fill such
vacancy or vacancies shall be entitled to all rights and privileges of
those proclaimed by the Governor as duly elected electors of President
and Vice-President of the United States.

156.   Meeting of Electors. The electors for this State shall meet
in the State House in the City of Annapolis. After taking and sub-
scribing the oath prescribed by Article 1, Section 6 of the Constitu-
tion, before the Clerk of the Court of Appeals, or in his absence
before one of his deputies, they shall give their votes for President
and Vice-President of the United States, on the day fixed by law of
the United States for meetings of electors of President and Vice-
President of the United States, and shall cast their votes for the
candidates who have received the majority of the votes cast in the
State of Maryland.

157.    General Provisions. (a) Date of Election. Elections of
United States Senators from Maryland, except in cases of election
for the purpose of filling any vacancy or vacancies in said office here-
inafter provided for, shall be held on the Tuesday next after the first
