CHAP. I.
An Act for the Relief of the Securities of William S. Handy, late Collector and
Sheriff for Somerset County.
1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
John King, Robert Leatherbury, Henry Banks, senior, Samuel
Heath, Josiah F. Polk, and all others securities for William S. Han-
dy, late collector for Somerset county, in the different respective
bonds given by the said William S. Handy, as collector of the coun-
ty levy for the years eighteen hundred and sixteen, eighteen hun-
dred and seventeen and eighteen hundred and eighteen, be and they
are hereby appointed collectors of the residue of the public taxes,
or county levy, now remaining due and uncollected in Somerset
county aforesaid, for the years eighteen hundred and sixteen, eigh-
teen hundred and seventeen, and eighteen hundred and eighteen, in
the place of the said William S. Handy; and the said John King,
Robert Leatherbury. Henry Banks, senior. Samuel Heath, and Jo-
siah F. Polk, and others, securities as aforesaid, be and they are
hereby fully authorised and empowered, to receive and collect, by-
execution, or otherwise, all arrears and balances due the said Wil-
liam Handy, as collector for the county aforesaid, in as full and
ample manner as the said William S. Handy might or could have
received or collected the same during the time of his being collector
of the public taxes in the county aforesaid; and the said John King,
Robert Leatherbury, Henry Banks, senior, Samuel Heath and Jo-
siah F. Polk, and others, securities as aforesaid, are hereby vested
with the whole power and authority which the said William S.
Handy had or possessed under the laws of this state as collector of
the county levy, and for the purposes of collecting and receiving
the same during the time he was collector of Somerset county afore-
said.
