8. And be it enacted, That no member of the said society shall
in his individual capacity be answerable for any losses, deficiencies
or failures of the joint fund of the said society, for any larger
sum or sums of money whatsoever than to the current amount by
him payable in the common fund of the society.
9. And be it enacted, That if at any time it may be deemed ne-
cessary to dissolve this society, a proposition to that effect shall be
laid on the table in writing, at a stated meeting of the society, and
may be discussed at the next stated or special meeting, but shall
not finally be decided on until it has been two full months before
the society, and shall not take effect unless three fourths of the
members residing within the city of Baltimore are in favour
thereof.
10. And be it enacted, This act shall be and remain in force un-
til the first day of January, eighteen hundred and thirty-nine,
and until the end of the next session of the general assembly which
shall happen thereafter.

CHAP. XXXV.
An Act to incorporate the Baltimore Friendly Society.
Whereas Daniel E. Reese, William Kesley, James Chalmers,
David Reese, William R. Glasgow, and others, have formed them-
selves into a society for the laudable purpose of affording relief to
each other, and their respective families, in the event of sickness,
distress and death, and have prayed an act of incorporation, that
they may the better execute their intentions; and the legislature
being desirous of promoting such useful institutions; therefore,
1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That Daniel
E.Reese. William Kesley, James Chalmers, David Reese, Wil-
liam R. Glasgow and others, that now are or may hereafter become
members of the said corporation herein erected, or may be admit-
ted into the said corporation, agreeably to the constitution, rules,
and by-laws of the same, and their successors, are hereby declared
to be one community, corporation and body politic, for ever, by
the name, style and title, of The Baltimore Friendly Society: Pro-
vided nevertheless, that the said corporation may be dissolved at
any time by the consent of its members as is hereinafter provided.
2. And be it enacted, That the affairs of the said society shall be
managed and conducted by a president, vice-president, secretary,
treasurer, and five stewards, to be elected annually on the first
Thursday in May, in each and every succeeding year, in such
manner as the said society shall think proper to appoint,
3. And be it enacted, That the present members of the said socie-
ty, and their successors, by their corporate name, shall and may
have perpetual succession, and shall and may be, at all times here-
after, persons able and capable in law to purchase, take, have and
enjoy, to them and their successors, in fee or less estate or estates,
any lands, tenements, rents, annuities, chattels, United States stock,
bank stock, registered debt, or other public securities within this
state, by gift, purchase or devise, of or from any person or per-
sons, bodies politic or corporate, capable to make the same, and
the same at their pleasure to alien, sell, transfer or lease, in such
manner as they may judge most conducive to the charitable uses of
the said society; Provided nevertheless, that the said corporation
