CHAP. 70.

Authorised to sell
and convey land.

tance from Elias Dorsey, through Ruth Howard her mother, to a
tract of land lying in the county of Baltimore, containing between
four and five hundred acres; that it would be for the benefit and in-
terest of the petitioners that the same should be sold, they living
out of the state of Maryland, and consequently unable to cultivate
the said land, owing to their remote residence, or make sale of it
on account of the said Susan Ann being under the age of twenty-
one years, and have prayed that a law may pass authorising them
to sell and convey said land, therefore,
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
Benjamin Laurence, and Susan Ann, his wife, of Jefferson county,
and state of Kentucky, be and they are hereby authorised and em-
powered, to sell and convey the land lying in Baltimore county,
which the said Susan Ann, the wife of the said Benjamin Laurence,
became entitled to by inheritance, which said sale and conveyance
shall have the same validity and effect to transfer said property, in
as full and ample a manner as if the said Susan Ann had been of
the age of twenty-one years at the time of joining with her said
husband in making the said deed of conveyance; Provided always,
that the said deed of conveyance be executed and acknowledged in
the manner now prescribed by law for the execution of deeds by
persons residing out of the state of Maryland.

CHAPTER 71.
An act to incorporate Saint Mary's Orphaline Female
School in the city of Baltimore.
Whereas the most Reverend Ambrose Marichal, Archbishop of
Baltimore, the Reverend Enoch Fenwick, pastor of the Roman Ca-
tholic Metropolitan church of Baltimore, and sundry other per-
sons, members of the said church, have associated for the purpose of
maintaining and educating poor orphan and other destitute female
children, and instructing them in the Christian religion, and have
petitioned to be incorporated; and this general assembly being
willing to encourage all good institutions, therefore,
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the most Reverend Ambrose Marichal, Archbishop of Baltimore,
the Reverend Enoch Fenwick, Luke Tiernan, David Williamson,
John White and John Scott, members of the Roman Catholic Me-
tropolitan church of Baltimore, and their successors in office, who
shall be duly elected in the manner herein after mentioned, be, and
they are hereby declared to be, one community, corporation and
body politic, for ever hereafter, by the name and style of Protectors
ef Saint Mary's Orphaline Female School in the City of Baltimore,
awl by that name they shall be and they are hereby made able and
capable in law, to have, purchase and receive, possess, enjoy and
retain, to them and their successors an aforesaid, lands, tenements
and hereditaments, rents, annuities and pensions, in fee simple, or
for a term of years, life, lives or otherwise, and also goods, chat-
tels and effects, of what nature, quality, or kind soever, by the gift,
bargain, sale or devise, of any person or persons, bodies politic or
corporate, capable to make the same, and the same to grant, de-
mise, alien, or dispose of, in such manner as the said protectors, or
a majority of them, may judge most conducive to the use and
benefit of the said institution; Provided always, that a majority of
