to erect a building, with convenient apartments, for the accommo-
dation of the register of wills, and clerk of the county court, and
the safe keeping of the public records of the county before men-
tioned; or if they may deem it more suitable, to repair and alter
the courthouse in such manner as to provide apartments for the
purposes before recited.
2. And be it enacted, That if a building be erected for said pur-
poses it shall be made fire-proof, or if the levy court consider it
more suitable to alter and repair the court-house, in that case the
court-house shall be made fire-proof.
3. And be it enacted, That the levy court shall, after they have
determined what sum will be sufficient for the aforesaid purposes,
levy and assess the one half thereof in the year eighteen hundred
and eighteen, and the other half in the year eighteen hundred and
nineteen, to be collected as other county charges are.

CHAPTER 75.
An act to empower Thomas W. Griffith, late Collector of
Baltimore County, to complete his Collections, and for
other purposes.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
Thomas W. Griffith, late collector of Baltimore county, be and he
is hereby allowed twelve months in addition to the time given him
by law to complete his collection.
2. And be it enacted, That the commissioners of the tax for the
city and county of Baltimore, as the case may be, and they
are hereby authorised, at any time before the first day of January
eighteen hundred and nineteen, to make allowances to the said Tho-
mas W. Griffith, for all removals and insolvencies which may ap-
pear to them to be just and proper, and the amount of the allow-
ances so made shall be passed to his credit, or levied for his use,
by the levy court of Baltimore county, as they may deem proper.
3. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the said Tho-
mas W. Griffith, before he proceeds to execute or distrain the pro-
perty of any person chargeable with, or answerable for the pay-
ments of (axes, to cause to be delivered to such person, or to the
tenant occupying the premises taxed, an account thereof, at least
ten days before levying any such execution or distress.

CHAPTER 76.
An act to authorise Hannah A. Hayes, Guardian of the Mi*
nor Children of Stephen Hayes, late of Cecil County, de-
ceased, to sell and convey all the right, title and interest,
of the said Minor Children to certain Real and Personal
Estate therein mentioned.
Whereas, it is represented to this general assembly, by the pe-
tition of Hannah A. Hayes, guardian of the minor children of Ste-
phen Hayes, late of Cecil county, deceased, that the said Stephen
Hayes, at the time of his death, was entitled in his own right to
the one undivided fourth part of all the lands, real estate, stock
and personal property, held and owned by the Elk Forge Compa-
ny, then trading under the firm of Robert May and Company, and
now trading; under the firm of Samuel Hayes and Company; that
