such persons in each county as the legislature may hereafter ap-
point.
27. And be it enacted, That if the president and directors of said
bank, shall at any time refuse to pay specie for their notes, when
called on, the charter shall be and is hereby declared null and void;
provided in case of such forfeiture the said bank shall be authorised
to recover all debts actually due at the time of said forfeiture as if
no forfeiture had happened, and also he responsible for all debts
and claims on them as if no forfeiture had happened.
28. And be it enacted, That this act shall continue in force until
the expiration of the year eighteen hundred and thirty-five, and
until the end of the next session of the general assembly which
shall happen thereafter.

CHAPTER 64.
An act to authorise the Moderator and Commissioners of
Hager's Town to levy a sum of money for a Fire En-
gine.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the moderator and commissioners of Hager's Town, in Washing-
ton county, be and they are hereby authorised and required, to le-
vy upon the taxable property of said town, and its additions, a sum
of money not exceeding twelve hundred dollars, in two equal an-
nual levies, to be collected under their directions as other town
taxes are, for the purpose of procuring a lire engine.
2. And be it enacted, That the moderator and commissioners
aforesaid shall pay over to the president of the Hager's Town Fire
Company, the amount of the levies aforesaid, in three months after
they shall have put the same into the hands of their collector, and
they, the said president and company, shall purchase a lire en-
gine with the money levied as aforesaid, for the use and benefit of
the citizens of Hager's Town.

CHAPTER 65.
An act to lay out and make public a Road in Frederick and
Montgomery Counties.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
John H. Riggs, Richard Brooks, Belt Brashear, Jesse Wright,
Lyde Griffith, Philip Dennis, and Joseph Hebberd, he and they are
hereby appointed commissioners for the purposes of this act, and
they, or a majority of them, are hereby authorised and required, to
lay out and open at the expense of the petitioners for said road, or
such of thorn as may be willing to contribute thereto, a road not
exceeding thirty feet in width, beginning at the town of New Mar-
ket, in Frederick county, at any point the said commissioners, or
a majority of them, may agree on; running thence in the most di-
rect and practicable direction to the line of the District of Colum-
bia, in direct communication with George Town and the City of
Washington; and that they, or a majority of them, lay the road as
nearly as may in their discretion and judgment be deemed advan-
tageous to the public convenience, and the least possible damage
to individuals; Provided always, That the said road shall not pass
through the buildings, yards, gardens, orchards or meadows, of
