through or over which the said roads may pass, to cut down, or
cause to be cut down, any tree or trees growing on any of the ad-
jacent lands to such place where bridges may be necessary as afore-
said, and the same trees may maul or carry away off such lands,
and to apply the same to the making of the said bridges, or other
necessary repairs or conveniencies on the said roads; Provided al-
ways, that it shall not be lawful for any supervisor to enter any
enclosure for the purpose of obtaining any stone, gravel, earth or
timber, for the purposes aforesaid, without the consent of the own-
er or owners thereof, or if a minor or minors, without the consent
of his, her, or their guardians; and that it shall be the duty of each
supervisor to make a separate return, on oath, of the timber taken
by him for the use of the said roads, and a list of the persons to
whom it belonged, with his view of the value thereof, which shall
bo levied on the assessable property of the said county, for the use
of the person or persons to whom it belonged, and collected as other
county charges are.
10. And be it enacted, That for the purpose of regulating wages
for labourers, carts and team, there shall be allowed for each cart
or wagon and sufficient team not exceeding two dollars per day,
and for each labourer one dollar per day, and for each supervisor
one dollar and fifty cents per day, to be regulated by the levy
court of said county; and the supervisor may employ able bodied
hands to work on the roads who may not be bound to work, and
they shall be allowed as those who are bound to work.
11. And be it enacted, That the supervisors shall render to the
levy court in April eighteen hundred and eighteen, a true account
of all work done on said roads, and by whom, and also all team and
carts or wagons employed on the road, and to whom they belonged,
and the person or persons who shall thus work or furnish team,
shall be allowed in the levy list for eighteen hundred and eighteen
for the same.
12. And be it enacted, That the levy court shall meet at Snow-
Hill some time in the month of December eighteen hundred and
eighteen, and in December annually, having first given notice, by
advertisements set up in the public places in the county, of the
time of meeting, and each supervisor shall meet and render an ac-
count to the levy court, on oath, of all work and services done on
the roads, and of all timber used as aforesaid, not rendered
before, and by whom the work was done, and to whom the timber
belonged, and a like account, on oath, of his own services, includ-
ing hi* services for notifying the hands to work, fur which services
in notifying hands to work, the levy court may allow each supervi-
sor not exceeding ten days; and the levy court shall direct their
clerk to make out the amount due to each person for his services
as aforesaid, with an alphabetical list of the names to whom the
Same may be due, and the clerk shall deliver said list to the collec-
tor of the county, within twenty days after the said court shall or-
der the same to be made, and the collector shall pay the same to
the persons to whom due, out of the money collected for the coun-
ty levy, or allow each person the same in their levy list, in the
same manner that he is bound to pay other county charges.
13. And be it enacted, That no supervisor shall proceed to work
on any public road with a less number of able bodied labourers
