town, and Stephen Steiner's dwelling and tavern stand on the
west end, and Jacob Lease's on the north end of said town, also
Ramsburg's mill, also the English Presbyterian church, and the
lots fronting on the west side of Bentz-street, from Ramsburg's
mill to the aforesaid church, both inclusive,
3. And be it enacted, That the mayor of the said town shall be
elected for three years, the aldermen for three years, and the
members of the common council for one year.
4. And be it enacted, That all free white male citizens, above
the age of twenty-one years, having resided twelve months next
preceding the election at which he shall offer to vote, within the
taxable limits of the said town, shall be entitled to vote for
mayor, aldermen, and a member of the common council, as here-
in alter directed: all elections shall be by ballot.
5. And be it enacted, That the citizens of the said town, quali-
fied as aforesaid, shall on the last Monday of February, in the
year eighteen hundred and seventeen, and on the same day in
every third year for ever thereafter, elect the mayor and five al-
dermen for the said town; the election to be held at the court-
house of the town, and the polls to be kept open from nine o'clock
in the morning until four in the afternoon.
6. And be it enacted, That for the purpose of electing the mem-
bers of the common council, the said town is hereby divided into
the seven following wards: all that part of the town, commonly
called Bentz-Town, bounded on the south by South-street, and
on the cast by Bentz-street, continuing said street from its inter-
section with South-street northward until it intersects Second-
street, and also including Stephen Stoner's dwelling-house and
tavern stand, to be the first ward; all that part lying cast of
Bentz-street, south of Patrick-street, and west of Market-street,
to be the second ward; all that part lying cast of Market-street,
and south of Patrick-street, or the turnpike road, running with
the said road so far as will include Michael Buckey's dwelling
house and tan-yard, and Jacob Buckey's factory, to be the third
ward: all that part lying west of Market-street, south of Second-
street, cast of Bentz-street, and north of Patrick-street, to be the
fourth ward: all that part lying cast of Market-street, south of
Second-street, and north of Patrick-street, or the turnpike road,
continuing the said ward eastward so far as to include the stone
and brick-house now occupied by Jacob Buckey, to be the fifth
ward; all that part lying north of Second-street, west of Market-
street, and south of Sixth-street, .and also including all lots front-
ing on the west side of Bentz-street, from Second-street to
Fourth-street, to be the sixth ward; all that part lying north of
Second-street, and cast of Market-street, continuing said street
northward so far as to include Jacob Lease's dwelling-house and
smith-shop, to be the seventh ward; and that the citizens of each
respective ward, qualified as aforesaid, shall on the last Monday
of February, in the year eighteen hundred and seventeen, and on
the same day in every year forever thereafter, elect one member
for the. common council of the said town; the election to be held
for a member of the common council in each respective ward at
such-place as shall be designated by the person authorised to hold
the election.
