tance of two miles from the site of the Conowingo Bridge, they
shall give notice thereof to the governor of this state, who shall
thereupon forthwith nominate and appoint throe skilful and judi-
cious persons to view and examine the same, and report to him,
in writing, whether the said road is so far executed in a masterly
and workmanlike manner, according to the true intent and mean-
ing of this act; and if their report shall be in the affirmative,
then the governor shall, by license under his hand, and the seal
of the state, permit and suffer the president, managers and com-
pany, to erect such and so many gates or turnpikes upon or
across the said roads, as will be necessary to collect the tolls
granted to the said company, from all persons travelling on the
same with horses, cattle, mules, wagons, carts or carriages.
13. And be it enacted, That if the legislature of Maryland
shall at any time after the year eighteen hundred and forty-five,
think proper to take possession of said road, for the purpose of
declaring it a free road, six persons shall be appointed by the
governor of this state, and six by the said company, who, or
any seven of whom, not having an interest in said road, shall
estimate the value of the property which said company have there-
in, and whenever the amount so estimated shall be paid to the
said company, their right to toll or said road, and all their right,
title and interest therein, shall cease.
14. And be it enacted, That the commissioners herein named
shall appoint five commissioners to locate and survey the said
turnpike road, and to exhibit a plot thereof at the time of open-
ing the books of subscription for the said capital stock of twen-
ty-four thousand dollars.

CHAPTER 236.
• An act for the benefit of the Methodist Episcopal Church
in the City of Annapolis.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That so much of the public ground as is now occupied by the
methodist meeting house in the city of Annapolis, together
with such addition thereto as the governor and council may deem
meet and sufficient for the building, rebuilding, or repairing the
meeting house aforesaid, be and the same is hereby relinquished
to the trustees of said church, and their successors, so long as
they appropriate it to the purposes expressed in this law, and
none other.

CHAPTER 237.
. An act to incorporate the Warren Manufacturing Company.
Whereas, it is represented to the legislature, by petition of S.
Smith and Buchanan, and others, that they have erected a cotton
factory on lands owned by them, on the Gunpowder Falls, in Bal-
timore county, and that they are desirous of increasing their ca-
pital stock, by voluntary subscriptions of such persons as may in-
cline to associate with them, to enable them to carry on more ex-
tensively the manufacturing of cotton, and to establish and carry
on such other manufactures and business as may be deemed use-
ful, and have prayed that they may be incorporated, in order to
