in future, and the said clerk shall record the same in the records of

the county, and at the place so specified all elections for said district
shall in future be held.

2. And be it enacted, That the commissioners appointed by virtue
of this act, shall at the present place of holding the election in

said district, on the first Monday in April next, for the purpose of

performing the duties imposed by this act, and the commissioners or

commissioner so meeting may adjourn from time to time, and from

place to place, until the object of this law is completed; and each

commissioner for each days attendance performing the duties requir-

ed by this act shall receive one dollar, to be levied, collected and paid

over as county charges are.

CHAPTER 154.

An act to appoint Commissioners for the purpose of dividing Saint Mary's coun-

ty into five separate Election Districts.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
James F. Sothron, George Slye, James Mittimore, Briscoe Davis,

Thomas Swann, Henry Green Gardner, and Francis Neale, or a ma-
jority of them, or a majority of the survivors of them, be, and they
are hereby appointed Commissioners and authorised to lay off Saint
Mary's county into five separate Election Districts, and to number the
same not altering or changing either the first, second or third election
districts, or the place of holding the elections therein as now estab-
lished by law, but only dividing the fourth Election District into two
separate Election Districts; having regard to the convenience of that
part of the population residing near and adjoining to Charlotte Hall,
and also to make choice of Chaptico as the place of holding the elec-
tions for one of the said Election Districts thus to be laid out, and
Charlotte Hall for the place of holding the other Election District
thus to be laid out; and the said Commissioners shall, on or before
the first day of April next, deliver to the clerk of Saint Mary's Coun-
ty Court a description, in writing, under their hands and seals, spec-
fying plainly the boundaries and number of each district which shall
be divided and laid off under this act, and also the place in each dis-
trict where the election for such district shall be hereafter held, and
the said clerk shall record the same among the records of the county.

2. And be it enacted, That the Commissioners appointed by virtue
of this act, shall meet at the usual place of holding the County Court
said county, on the first Monday in April next, for the purpose of
performing the duties under this act, and the Commissioners so meet-
ing may adjourn from time to time, and place to place, until the whole
be completed.

Copy of pro-
ceedings.

3. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the clerk of Saint
Mary's County Court to furnish the Sheriff of said County with five
copies of the proceedings of the said Commissioners, who shall cause
one copy of the same to be set up at the Court House door of said
County, at least three weeks before the next election, and who also
shall cause one other copy to be set up at each place of holding the
election on the day of the next election.

Compensa-
tion.

4 And be it enacted, That for all services performed by the Com-
missioners aforesaid by virtue of this act, the Levy Court of Saint
Mary's County shall make reasonable compensation, and shall levy
the same upon the County, and the same shall be collected and paid
as other County charges.
