Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
at the present session, and at every succeeding; session of the General
Assembly, one director shall be appointed by joint ballot on the part
of the state to manage its concerns in said company by the legis-
lature.

2. And be it enacted, That the director appointed shall have full
power and authority to vote at the election of directors as other stock-
holders have, and to attend the meeting of the directors of the said
company, and as such have all the rights, privileges and powers of
any director.

CHAPTER 143.

An act for the support of an orphan child of Maria Quinlan, late of Harford
County.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the levy
court of Harford County be, and they are hereby authorised at their
next levy court, and annually thereafter, to assess and levy on the as-
sessable property of said county a sum of money not exceeding thirty
dollars, for the support and maintenance of an orphan child of Maria
Quinlan, late of said county, to commence from the death of the mo-
ther, so long as they shall see cause, and that the same be annually
collected and paid over to John Grendall, or such person as the court
may think proper.

CHAPTER 144.
A further supplement to the act. entitled, an act to establish a Bank, and incor-
porate a company under the name of the Cumberland Bank of Allegany.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
instead of eight directors and a president to manage the affairs of the
said bank, as authorised in the law to which this is a further supple-
ment, three commissioners herein after named and appointed, shall
have full power and authority to conduct and manage the affairs of
the said bank for the purpose of settling and closing the concerns
thereof.

2. And be it enacted, That Frederick A. Schley, Bene S. Pigman
and Abraham Schriver, be, and they are hereby appointed commis-
sioners for the purpose aforesaid, and all the power and authority
heretofore possessed by the president, directors and company of said
bank shall be, and is hereby vested in said commissioners, and that
instead of a cashier and other officers, the said commissioners shall
have full power and authority to appoint such agents, clerks, and at-
tornies, and the same to remove at pleasure as they may deem neces-
sary in the discharge of the duty hereby assigned them, and that it
shall be the duty of the said agents, clerks and attornies, to give all
due and proper attention to the business confided to them by said
commissioners in virtue of this act, and that to which this is a fur-
ther supplement, and the said commissioners shall have full, power
and authority to defray all necessary expenses, and make compensa-
tion out of the funds of said bank to the agents, clerks and attornies,
that they may employ as aforesaid as to them shall appear reasona-
ble and proper.

3. And be it enacted, That the said commissioners in the perfor-
mance of the trust hereby conferred upon them shall always have due
regard to the interest of the debtors, creditors and stockholders, and
shall have full power and authority to call upon the president, direc-
tors, cashier or other officers or agents of said bank, or any of them
