want of a bridge over the North East Run on the public road leading
from Back and Middle River Necks, to the City of Baltimore;—
Therefore,
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the Levy Court of Baltimore county, be, and they are hereby autho-
rised and required to levy on the assessable property of said county
such sum of money as they in their judgment shall deem necessary,
not exceeding one thousand dollars, for the purpose of erecting a
Bridge over North East Run, at or near the crossing place on the
public road leading from Back and Middle River Necks, to the City
of Baltimore; and the same when collected shall be paid over to three
prudent and discreet men, residents of the district in which the bridge
is to be built, (and to be named by the said levy court,) who are
hereby appointed commissioners to superintend the building of said
bridge, and they, or a majority of them shall and are hereby authori-
sed to employ workmen to build said bridge, and complete it as soon
as possible.

2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the commissioners
to take bond or bonds from the said workmen, in such penalty and
security, as the levy court of Baltimore county shall direct, conditi-
oned for the faithful building of said bridge, and that the said bond
or bonds shall not be cancelled until said commissioners shall have
made report to the said levy court, that said bridge has been finished
according to contract. .

3. And be it enacted, That said commissioners after the completion
of said bridge shall render a full account to the levy court of Balti-
more county, of all the monies expended in building the said bridge,
and the money remaining in their hands, not expended (if any) after
the completion of the same, shall be returned to the said levy court for
the use of said county.

CHAPTER 57.
An act to authorise the Levy Court of Washington County, to levy a sum of mo-
ney for the erection of a Bridge over the Antietum, at Frederick Zigler's
Ford.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the levy court of Washington count)-, be, and they are hereby autho-
rised and empowered to levy on the assessable property of the said
county at such time or times, as the said levy court shall deem most
suitable and convenient, such sum or sums of money not exceeding
in the whole three thousand dollars, as may be sufficient, to build a
bridge over the Antietum, at Frederick Zigler's Ford, in the county
aforesaid.

2. And be it enacted, That the levy court of the county aforesaid
may examine and decide concerning the fitness and expediency of
erecting the said bridge, and may determine on the plan and materials
of the same, and may make and enter into any contract or contracts
with any person or persons, corporate or natural, which may be ne-
cessary, relating to the erection of the said bridge.

3. And be it enacted, That should the Hagerstown and Antietum
Turnpike Company, incorporated at December session, 1818, hereaf-
ter be organised and make the turnpike road from the public square in
Hagerstown, to intersect the turnpike road leading from Gettysburgh
through Nicholson's Gap, at the Pennsylvania line, the said turn-
pike company shall not be entitled to demand or take any toll what-
soever on the said road, until they shall have paid to the levy court
