proper; and whereas it is represented to this General Assembly, that
the levy court of the said county is willing to make the aforesaid levy,
and to grant it as a loan to the Boonsborough Turnpike Road Com-
pany, for the purpose herein before mentioned, but that the said sum
of money is wholly inadequate to the erection of a Bridge, such as the
said levy court deem it necessary for the public good to erect at the
place above described;—Therefore,

Dec. Ses. 1823

Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
it shall and may be lawful for the levy court of Washington County,
if they shall deem it necessary and expedient, to levy on the taxable
property of the said county, in addition to the sum heretofore autho-
rised, a sum of money not exceeding eighteen hundred dollars, in
three equal annual levies, in the three years next after the passage of
this act, for the purpose of building over the Antietum, at or near
Mumma's Mill, a substantial stone bridge.

Levy $1800.

2. And be it enacted, That the levy court of the county aforesaid,
be, and they are hereby authorised and empowered to enter into such
contract or contracts with any person or persons, corporate or natural,
as they may deem just, equitable and expedient to cany into effect
the object of this act, and the act to which this is a supplement, and
to take such security as they may deem suitable and sufficient for the
faithful application of the money which they are authorised to levy by
this act, and the act to which this is a supplement, and for the perfor-
mance of all such contracts, compromises or arrangements as they
may make and enter into in relation to the building of the bridge
aforesaid.

Contracts.

CHAPTER. 53.

A. further supplement to an act, entitled, An act to provide for a new assessment,
and to appoint collectors of the County Tax, in and for the City and County of
Baltimore.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the Levy Court of Baltimore County shall and may appoint seven
collectors, to collect the public taxes and assessments in said county,
not included within the limits of the City of Baltimore, for the year
eighteen hundred and twenty-three.

13, 1824.

Collectors.

4. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the Levy Court of
said county, annually hereafter, to appoint seven collectors of the
county tax, one for each old election district, to be designated in the
several bonds to be filed with the said court, collection district,
which said collectors, when so appointed before they proceed to act,
shall severally give bond to the state of Maryland, in such penalty,
and with such security as the said court shall prescribe and approve,
and in all other respects comply with the provisions of the act to
which this is a further supplement, passed at December session, 1817.

CHAPTER 54.

An act for the relief of Richard Batturs, of the City of Baltimore.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
Richard Batturs, of the city of Baltimore, be, and he is hereby autho-
rised to prosecute a petition for the benefit of the insolvent laws of
this state, before the commissioners of insolvent debtors for the city
and county of Baltimore, notwithstanding the unfavorable report
made by them upon his former petition.

Passed Jan.
14, 1824.
Insolvency.

2. And be it enacted, That upon such petition being filed before the
said commissioners they shall proceed according to the rules and re-
