Dec. Ses. 1823

Owings' Mills to Elkridge Landing at the farm of George Cook, in
Anne Arundel county, has been shut up for more than thirty-years—
Therefore,

Road closed.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
road commonly called the old Pushpin road leading from the road
laid out from Ellicott's Mills to Snell's Bridge, at or near the corner
of Owen Dorsey's fence and crossing the Patuxent river at the old
Pushpin Ford, and interesting the road leading from Owings' Mills
to Elkridge Landing at the farm of George Cook, in Anne Arundel
county, be, and the same is hereby declared to be shut up and shall
not hereafter be considered as a county road,any law to the contrary
notwithstanding.

Money to be
borrowed.

CHAPTER 187.

An act providing for the payment of the Witnesses therein mentioned.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That Re-
zin Estep be, and he is hereby authorised and empowered, to borrow
for the use of Anne Arundel county, such a sum of money as may
be necessary to pay the Witnesses summoned on the part of Anne
Arundel county to attend the bar of the Senate or the House of Del-
egates, during the present session, and all necessary expenses atten-
dant on procuring the attendance of such Witnesses, and that each
Witness be allowed at the rate of three dollars per diem for his atten-
dance.

Levy.

2. And be it enacted, That as soon as the whole amount of the
expenses as aforesaid shall be ascertained by the said Rezin Estep,
he shall render an account thereof to the Levy court of Anne Arun-
del county, who shall thereupon levy on the assessable property of
said county the amount thereof, and it shall he the duty of the collec-
tor of said county, to pay said amount so as aforesaid to be borrowed
with the interest thereon, on or before the first day of November next.

CHAPTER 188.
An act for the better regulation of the Militia of the city of Baltimore.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
all able bodied white male citizens between eighteen and forty-five
years of age, residents of the city of Baltimore, except the Vice Pre-
sident of the United States, the Officers Judicial and Executive of
the Government of the United States, the Members of both Houses
of Congress and their respective Officers, the Members of the Exe-
cutive Council and their Clerks, the Chancellor, the Judges of the
County Courts and the Clerks of those Courts, the Judges of the City-
Court and the Clerk of that Court, the Register in Chancery, the Re-
gister of Wills, the Registers of the Land Office of the Eastern and
Western Shore, the Clerks of the Courts of Appeals, the Members of
the Legislature of the state and their Clerks whilst in session, the Pro-
fessors and Masters of all Colleges and Public Schools, School Mas-
ters and practising Physicians, all Custom House Officers with their
Clerks, all Post Officers and Stage Drivers who are employed in the
care and conveyance of the Mail of the Post Office of the United
States all Ferryman employed at any Ferry on the Post road, all In-
spectors of exports, all Pilots, all Mariners actually employed in the
sea service of any citizen or merchant within the United States, all
Mariners actually engaged in the coasting trade from one state to
another, the treasurers of the Eastern and Western Shore and Audi-
tor the Officers employed in the Penitentiary, and also all Ministers
