Preamble.

CHAPTER 156.
An act authoring certain persons therein mentioned to purchase a Lot of
Ground, for the purpose of erecting thereon a Methodist Church in Charles
town, Cecil county.
Whereas, the Commissioners and Inhabitants of Charles town, in
Cecil county, have by their petition to this General Assembly set
forth, that they are willing to expend the sum of two hundred dollars
to a house of religious worship for the use of the inhabitants of said
town, and the monies designed for that purpose arise from the rents of
the public property of said town: And whereas, doubts are entertained
as to the power of said Commissioners to make an appropriation of
said monies to that object, and the said Commissioners and inhabi-
tants have prayed a law may pass expressly granting such power, and
said petition being deemed reasonable—Therefore,

Appropria-
tion of $200.

Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the Commissioners of Charles town in Cecil county, be, and they are
hereby authorised to apply two hundred dollars from the monies ari-
sing from the rents of the public property of said town when collec-
ted and unappropriated, towards building a House of Religious Wor-
ship in said town for the use of the inhabitants thereof, and to pay
over the said sum of money to the Trustees of the said Church there-

inafter named; Be it enacted, That Joseph Benjamin, Thomas Rich-
ardson, Joshua Bennett, John Tomlinson, Robert Thompson, John
Turner, and John Wilson, are hereby appointed trustees for the time
being, and they are hereby authorised to purchase and hold in fee sim-
ple, to them and their successors for ever, within the limits of said,
town, a lot of ground not exceeding two acres, for the purpose afore-
said, and to receive from the Commissioners of said town, the sum of
money before mentioned, to be applied to the purchase and building
of the House of Religious Worship aforesaid.

Use.

2. And be it enacted, That the house aforesaid when erected shall be
for the use of the Methodist Society, and to be held by the Trustees
aforesaid for the time being and their successors, for and in the name
of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Charles town.

Vacancy.

3. And be it enacted, That in case of death or resignation of any of
the said Trustees aforesaid, it shall be lawful for the members com-
posing said society to meet in said church and appoint other Trus-
tees to fill up all such vacancy or vacancies that may happen, either in
the present board of Trustees or their successors, as the case may be,
and when so appointed they shall be invested with the same powers
that the trustees aforesaid now have by this act.

CHAPTER 157.
A further supplement to the act entitled, An act for the establishment and re-
gulation of Levy Courts in the several Counties of this State.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Levy Court of Allegany county shall hereafter consist of nine mem-
bers, and that in order to the constitution of the same, the Governor
and Council shall be, and they are hereby authorised and required,
annually hereafter, to appoint and commission at the time at present
prescribed by law for making such appointment, two persons of dis-
cretion resident in the sixth election district of Allegany county, at the
time of their appointment, and one person of discretion in and for
each of the other election districts of said county, resident therein at
the time of their appointment, as Justices of the Levy Court in and
for said county.
