Virginia, into this state, at any time or times, within twelve months
from the passage of this act, the said three negro slaves, to wit:
Josiah, Beckey and Sam, to be held by him as the property of his
said wards, in the same manner as if the said negroes had never re-
sided in the state of Virginia, any law to the contrary notwithstand-
ing; Provided, That nothing in this act shall in any manner be so
construed, as to give the said negroes Josiah, Beckey and Sam, any

claim whatever to freedom; Provided also, That the said Christian
Kemp have the names and ages of said negroes recorded in the
clerk's office for Frederick county court, within three months after
such removal.

Proviso.

CHAPTER 80.

An act for the relief of the children and wife of John Vincent Cooksey,
of Charles county.
Whereas, It appears to this general assembly, that John Vin-
cent Cooksey, late of Charles county, was tried and convicted of
murder, and that he was sentenced to execution therefor, and has
since escaped, leaving considerable real and personal property, and
a wife and three children, and some legislative provisions are re-
quired for their protection—Therefore,

Passed Jan. 21,

1822.
Preamble.

Sec. 1. Be it enacted By the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the Orphans' Court of Charles county, shall have authority to
appoint a trustee or trustees to take possession of all the estate, real,
personal and mixed, of John Vincent Cooksey, and to apply the same
to the support and maintenance of the now wife of the said Cooksey,
and to the support, maintenance and education of his three children;

Trustee.

Provided, That said trustee give bond with security to be approved
of by said court, conditioned for his faithful performance of the
trust created by this act.

Proviso.

2. And be it enacted, That said trustee shall annually report
in writing to said court, the situation of said trust estate, shewing
particularly the value of said estate on hand, the expenses of the
support of the wife, and the support and education of the children
for the year.

To report.

3. And be it enacted, That the said court shall have authori-
ty to appoint another trustee to carry into effect the provisions of this
act, on die death or removal out of the county of any such trustee
by them appointed.

4. And be it enacted, That this trust shall cease and expire if
the said John Vincent Cooksey should be pardoned and return to
this state to reside, or should die; and that the trustee appointed by
this act shall have complete authority to make any contract or con-
tracts relating to said trust property, and to bring such suits in his
own name as may be necessary to enforce said contract or contracts,
and to preserve any of the estate, real, personal or mixed, that he
may get by virtue of this act, and to appear to, and prosecute or de-
fend all suits now brought or hereafter to be brought, to which said

Cooksey may be a party; Provided always, That nothing herein
contained shall be construed to affect or in any way impair any bona
fide contract or contracts now made, or that may hereafter be made
by said John Vincent Cooksey, relating to or concerning any of the
said property or estate of said Cooksey.
