CHAPTER 61.
An ml to provide for the building a bridge over Beaver Creek, in
Washington county.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted By the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the justices of the levy court of Washington county, shall, at
the first annual levy made after the passage of this act, levy upon
the taxable property in said county, a sum of money not exceed-
ing three hundred dollars, for the purpose of building a bridge
over Beaver Creek, at the place where the road leading from Boons-
borough to Williams-Port crosses said creek in the county afore-
said.

2. And be it enacted, That the justices aforesaid shall, as
soon as conveniently may be after the levying of the money afore-
said, cause a bridge to be erected over the said stream at the place
aforesaid, in such manner as the said justices shall think most ad-
vantageous for the public; and the sum of money so as aforesaid to
be levied, or so much thereof as may be necessary for that purpose,
shall be applied to the payment of the expense of erecting said
bridge.

CHAPTER 62.
An act to incorporate the Baltimore Society for the Encouragement
of Industry.
Whereas, Sundry persons inhabitants of the city of Baltimore,
have concluded that real and important advantages might result
from a society being formed for the purpose of mutually assisting
and being assisted by each other in purchasing and leasing lots of
ground to build upon, and in repairing and building houses by col-
lecting into one common stock whatever money, materials, labor
and other means of improvement may voluntarily be deposited
therein, and in order to promote the object in view have petitioned
for an act of incorporation—Therefore,

SEC. 1. Be it enacted By the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Thomas Kenney, William Kenworthy, George Norbury, Fre-
derick Sumwalt, John Hewes, Joseph Jamison, Joshua Turner, Mi-
chael Warner, Deter Barger and others, the present and future hol-
ders of the stock of the said society, be, and they are hereby declar-
ed to be one community, corporation and body politic, under the
name and style of the Baltimore Society for the encouragement of
industry; and by that name, and under that style, the said society
shall have succession, and shall be authorised to sue and be sued,
plead and be impleaded, answer and be answered, defend and be
defended, both at law and in equity; also to fix upon, make, have
and use a common seal, which shall be liable to be changed, altered
and renewed at pleasure.

2. And be it enacted, That the stock of the said society shall
consist of whatever voluntary labor, materials and other means of
improvement as shall from time to time be confided to the manage-
ment of the board of directors for the time being of this corpora-
tion, and that the whole amount of the said stock shall not exceed
thirty thousand dollars, nor the time of its operation be extended be-
yond the term often years without a subsequent act, if necessary, to
authorise an extension thereof; also that the said whole amount of
stock shall be divided into shares of five dollars each; and in pro-
