on the second Wednesday in May, the second Wednesday in June,
the twelfth of September and the second Wednesday in October,
for like purposes, at the same hour, under like penalties and in the
same manner as prescribed by law for other regiments of the bri-
gade, and be governed by and be subject to all the provisions of
this act and of the act to which this is a supplement.

Rifle Battali-
ons.

9. And be it enacted, That the rifle battalions attached to the
third and fourteenth brigades may be respectively organised as regi-
ments, whenever there shall be six companies uniformed according
to law, and having the legal complement of men in either of said
rifle battalions; and that upon said fact being reported by the briga-
dier generals of either of said brigades to the governor and coun-
cil, they shall issue the regiment field and staff commissions for the
first or second rifle regiment, as the case may be.

10. And be it enacted, That whenever the fourteenth brigade
shall have a volunteer regiment of infantry besides three distinct
regiments, the commanding officer of the third brigade, with the con-
sent of a majority of the field officers of the two district regiments
now composing the third brigade, be and they are hereby authoris-
ed to lay off the said third brigade district into three regimental
districts, one of which shall be allotted to the sixth regiment, an-
other to the twenty-seventh, and the remaining one to be number-
ed and officered by the governor and council and attached to the
third brigade in like manner as other district regiments are organ-
ised; and that said district regiments shall parade on the third
Tuesday of May, the third Tuesday of June, the twelfth Sep-
tember and the second Tuesday of October, for like purposes, at the
same hour, under like penalties and in the same manner as pre-
scribed by law for other regiments of the brigade; and be governed
by and be subject to all the provisions of this act, and of the act to
which this is a supplement.

Certified copy
of sentence to
be evidence.

11. And be it enacted, That a copy of the sentence of any
court martial which has been or shall be held in persuance of the
act to which this is a supplement, certified by the president of such
court to be a true and correct copy, shall be received by any court
or justice as evidence of the truth of all such matters stated therein,
as such court martial are authorised or competent by law to decide
upon; and so much of the sixty-ninth section of the said original act
to which this is a supplement, as declares that the copy of the sen-
tence of any court martial imposing fines, certified by the president
of such court shall be conclusive evidence that the fines therein
stated have been incurred, shall be and is hereby repealed.

12. And be it enacted, That nothing contained in this act or
in the act to which this is a supplement, shall be so construed, as to
subject to the payment of any fine, for not attending any militia
meeting, either for parade or exercise, any person not liable to per-
form military duty under the laws of this state, or of the United
States.

Second rifle
battalion.

13. And be it enacted, That the second battalion of riflemen
shall parade on the same days and at the same hour as the first bat-
talion of riflemen is now required by law to assemble.

Fines.

14. And be it enacted, That the fines to be paid by any non-
commissioned officer or private for non-attendance at any meeting,
muster or parade, shall in no instance exceed one dollar; and that all
