tify each trustee of his appointment, and in case of the death, resig-
nation, removal or disqualification of any of said trustees, then and
in that case the levy court at their next meeting, shall proceed to fill
up said vacancy or vacancies.
2. And be it enacted, That the said trustees shall immediately
after their appointment, proceed to lay off each election district into
seven divisions; and when so laid off it shall be the duty of said trus-
tees to report in writing; to the levy court, the marks and hounds of
each subdivision, to be by said court filed and recorded; one of
which to be allotted to each trustee, whose duty it shall be to make
a census of the poor children on or before the first of May annually
above the age of eight years, describing their names, ages and sex
within his subdivision, whose parents, or those under whose care
they may be are unable to pay for the tuition of such children, and
said census shall be reported to the levy court of said county as soon
as may be by said trustees, and filed and recorded in the proceed-
ings of said court; and said trustees shall have power to adjourn
from day to day and make such rules and regulations as they may
deem requisite to carry into effect the object of this act.

3. And be it enacted, That from and after the passage of this
act, the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby required,
annually to pay or cause to be paid to the levy court of said county,
on application of said court, her legal proportion of said school
fund, instead of paying it to the commissioners of the school fund as
directed by a supplement to the act passed at December session
eighteen hundred and nineteen, for the benefit and use of a free
school in Talbot county.

4. And be it enacted, That the commissioners of the school
fund appointed for Talbot county under the authority of the
second section of an act entitled, "An act for the distribution
of a certain fund for the purpose of establishing free schools in
the several counties therein mentioned," be and they are hereby di-
rected to pay or cause to be paid, within six months after the pas-
sage of this law, all balances of money which may be in their hands
arising from the school fund aforesaid, to the order of the levy court
of Talbot county, and in case of refusal or neglect of said commis-
sioners to pay as aforesaid, the levy court is hereby empowered and
directed to institute suit or suits against them in the name of the
levy court of Talbot county, for the recovery of all such balances.

5. And be it enacted, That the levy court of Talbot county,
be, and they are hereby authorised and directed, if they shall think
proper to levy and assess on the assessable property of said county

annually, a sum of money not exceeding five hundred dollars in

scholars as may be at school: Provided, that no person's property
shall be taxed for the above mentioned purpose, unless the assessa-
ble property of such person shall be assessed to the amount of three
hundred dollars; and the collector of said county shall collect the
money so levied as other county charges are collected, and pay the

same over to the order of the levy court of said county.

6. And be it enacted, That the levy court be and they are
hereby directed to deposit annually in the bank at Easton, within
twenty days after its reception, all sums of money which may or
shall come into their possession either from the treasurer of the
