That from and after the passage of this act, all the powers heretofore
vested by the act of assembly to which this act is a supplement, in
Ephraim K. Wilson, Thomas N. Williams, George Hayward, Jo-
shua Prideaux, Billy Fookes, John Cottingham, senior, William
Quinton, Ebenezer Christopher, and Doctor John Stevenson, as
commissioners for Worcester county, for the distribution of a cer-
tain fund for the establishment of free schools, shall cease, deter-
mine, and be at an end; and all the powers aforesaid which were
vested in or in any way belonged to the commissioners aforesaid
under the provisions of the act to which this act is a supplement,
shall he and they are hereby vested in the levy court of Worcester
county.

2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the levy
court aforesaid, to appoint in each and every election district of
Worcester county, in every year, three discreet men, whose duty it
shall be to select in their respective neighborhoods and districts,
such children as are in their judgments entitled to the benefits of
the fund for establishing free schools, viz: white orphan children
without property, and other poor white children whose parents are
unable to pay for their schooling, and the same to put to school at

the best and most convenient schools: Provided, That in no in-
stance, the amount for schooling in any district shall exceed the
sum assigned by the levy court to such district; And provided also,
that no agent shall be authorised to pay for the board of any child
or children by him put to school.

Proviso.

3. And be it unacted, That it shall be the duty of the agents
aforesaid, to return annually to the levy court of said county, an ac-
count of the children schooled in their districts respectively, and
the accounts of the different teachers by them employed, under the
oath of such teachers, to be settled and paid by said court.

4. And be it enacted, That the treasurer of the western shore
be and he is hereby directed to pay to the order of the levy court of
Worcester county, the proportion of the school fund aforesaid be-
longing to said county, and which may not have been paid to the
commissioners appointed in virtue of the act to which this act is a
supplement or their authorised agent, and all other and further
sums which may accrue hereafter on said fund belonging to the
county; and the levy court aforesaid is hereby authorised and em-
powered to vest the aforesaid fund, as well such part as is now due,
as all other sums arising hereafter, in good and profitable stock, or
to place the same at interest on sufficient personal or property secu-
rities—always requiring in the event of the adoption of the latter
course, the punctual payment of the interest annually.

5. And be it enacted, That the commissioners aforesaid ap-
pointed under the act to which this act is a supplement, be and they
are hereby authorised and directed, to pay over to the levy court
aforesaid, the money or any balance thereof which they or their au-
thorised agent may have drawn from time to time from the treasury
of the state, and which may not have been expended by said com-
missioners according to the provisions of the act to which this act
is a supplement, and as well to deliver over to the levy court afore-
said, all bonds, bills obligatory and obligations of whatsoever
kind or kinds they may have or hold as evidence of debt for any part
of the school fund aforesaid, and which may have been by the said
