1820.

by writing under their hands, in knowledge that they will be
benefited by the opening of the said street, and agree to be as-
sessed therefor, which said writing shall be acknowledged by
each of the signers thereto before a justice of the peace for Bal-
timore county, who shall, by endorsement thereon, certify the
same under his hand, which writing, when so acknowledged,
shall be recorded among the land records of Baltimore county,
and a copy thereof, under the seal of office, shall be evidence in
any court of law or equity in this state, and shall be conclusive
evidence that the persons who shall so execute and acknowledge
the said instrument of writing, are the only persons who will be
benefited by the opening of the said street, and no person who
shall execute and acknowledge, the said instrument of wri-
ting, shall be deemed benefited by the opening of the said street,
or to be liable to be assessed, or to pay any part of the expenses
or damages to arise in the execution of this law; Provided al-
ways, that until the acknowledgment and agreement herein pro-
vided for shall be executed, acknowledged and recorded, in the
manner herein directed, it shall not he lawful to do any other
matter or thing authorised by this law.

CHAP. CCIV.

A Supplement to the act, entitled, An Act to direct the mode of collecting the
several Taxes imposed on Proceedings in the Court of Chancery.

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
register of the court of chancery shall, on or before, the first day

of April next, deliver or send to each of the sheriff's of the seve-

ral counties, a list of taxes imposed by law on chancery proceed -
ings, fur services heretofore done in the said court for persons re-
sident of such county, and which have not been sent by the, late
register to such sheriff's, for collection; and the same shall be col-

lected by the several sheriff's, and accounted for by them accord-
ing to the provisions of the act to which this is a supplement.

2. And be it enacted, That the said register shall, between the
first day of January and the first day of March annually, deliver
or send to each of the sheriffs of the several counties a list of taxes
imposed as aforesaid for services hereafter to be done in the said

court for persons resident of such county.

3. And be it enacted, That if any of said taxes shall or may

be sent for collection the sheriff of any county in which the

person chargeable therewith doth not reside, then upon such re-
turn being made to the treasurer of the shore he shall and is
hereby directed to give information thereof to the register in chan-
cery, who is required to send the same for collection to the she-

riff of the proper county.

4. And be it enacted, That the treasurers of the respective shores
shall examine the several lists of returns made to them respec-
tively by the sheriffs of the several counties, of taxes which have
not been paid since the passage of the act to which this is a sup-
plement, and if it appear by any such returns that taxes have
been sent for collection to the sheriff of any county in which the
person or persons chargeable therewith did not reside, then the
said treasurer shall transmit to the register in chancery a list of
such persons, designating therein the county of which such per-
son or persons is or are resident, and immediately upon the re-
