named negroes: Wilson, a boy aged fifteen years, Dennis, a boy
aged thirteen years, and Grace a female, aged about twelve years;
which slaves shall have resided in the state of Virginia three
whole years next preceding such removal or importation, and the
same to retain as slaves; Provided, that the said Littleton Dennis
Teackle cause said negro slaves to be registered in the office of
the clerk of Somerset county.

CHAP. 187.
Proviso.

2. And be it enacted. That nothing herein contained shall be constru-
ed to enable the said Littleton Dennis Teackle to sell or dispose of
said slaves, until the said slaves shall have resided in this state
three whole years next preceding such sale, except in cases of
disposition by last will and testament, and disposition by law for
bona fide debts, or consequent upon intestacy.

CHAP. CLXXXVIII.

An Additional Supplement to an act. entitled, An act to regulate the inspection
of Tobacco.

WHEREAS the seed of a kind of tobacco, called Varinas To-
bacco, has been imported with considerable difficulty from South.
America, which it is desirable to introduce into cultivation in this
state; and it is represented, that to give it a fair chance of com-
petition in a foreign market with tobacco of the same kind export-
ed from South America, it will be necessary, instead of packing
it in the usual way, to make it up into rolls and petaccas, which
cannot be inspected in the manner prescribed by the present in-
spection laws; and sufficient information respecting the nature of
said tobacco is not possessed to ascertain and determine what sort
of inspection it would be susceptible of and require, which infor-
mation can only be obtained by experience: And whereas this
general assembly is at all times desirous of fostering and promot-
ing the. interests of agriculture, and for that purpose of encou-
raging the introduction of new and valuable varieties of one of
our great staples; Therefore,

Preamble.

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
after the passage of this act the provisions of the act to which
this is an additional supplement, shall not be construed to extend
to Varinas Tobacco, the growth of this state.

2. And be it enacted, That this act shall continue in force until
the first, day of December in the year eighteen hundred and twen-
ty three, and to the end of the next session of the general assem-
bly thereafter.

CHAP. CLXXXIX.

An Act for the benefit of the Havre-de-Grace Bank.

WHEREAS it has been deemed advantageous by the stockholders
of the Havre-de Grace Bank that the affairs of the bank should
be settled, and the corporation dissolved, and to that end hath pe-
titioned the legislature of Maryland; Therefore,

Passed Feb. 14 ,1821.

Preamble.

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the said Havre-de-Grace Bank shall, after the passage of this act,
have no power or authority to discount any new paper, but may
take renewals of paper already discounted, from time to time,
and shall have power and authority to take bonds or bills, single
or penal, for any sums now due to the bank.
