1820.

CHAP. CLXXXIII.

An Act to authorise the Levy Court of Cecil County to levy a Sum of money
for the purposes therein mentioned.

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That John
M'Corkle, Andrew R. Porter, and Robert Evans, junior, be and
are hereby appointed commissioners, and authorised to contract
for and superintend the rebuilding of the bridge over Octoraro
creek at Porter's mill, and that the said commissioners shall meet
for the above purpose on or before the first day of April next.

2. And be it enacted. That the justices of the levy court of Cecil
county, at their next annual levy, shall levy upon the assessable
property in said county, a sum of money not exceeding four hun-
dred dollars, to be applied to the rebuilding the aforesaid bridge,
which said sum of money shall be paid to the aforesaid commis-
sioners, or their order, or so much thereof as shall be necessary
to complete the said bridge.

3. And be it enacted, That (he levy court of said county shall
allow to the said commissioners such compensation, not exceeding
twenty dollars each, to he paid as other county charges, and for the
duties imposed upon them by virtue of this act, as to the said
levy court shall appear just, and reasonable, taking into their
consideration all the circumstances of the case.

4. And be it enacted, That the aforesaid commissioners, or a
majority of them, shall have full power to carry this act into
effect.

CHAP. CLXXXIV.

An Act to extend the powers of the Levy Court of Baltimore County in the
case therein mentioned.

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, that the
collection of the county taxes for Baltimore county during the
late war, was attended with much difficulty and loss to the collec-
tor, especially as the several levies were not made until the month
of December in each year respectively; and that the levy court
of said county are desirous to be authorised to enter into a com-
promise and to accept of property and stocks in payment of the
claims of the county against said collector; Therefore,

Preamble.

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the levy court of Baltimore county be and they are hereby au-
thorised and empowered, to receive from Thomas W. Griffith,
collector of said county for the years eighteen hundred and thir-
teen, eighteen hundred and fourteen, and eighteen hundred and
fifteen, any and all such property, real and personal, as the said
Thomas W. Griffith shall tender, in payment of any balance,
which, on a fair and equitable settlement of his accounts may re-
main due to the said county by him; to receive in their names
good and sufficient conveyances and assignments for such pro-
perty, to the use of said county, on such terms ;and conditions as
to the said court shall seem just and proper, and on the delivery
thereof, to deliver to said Thomas W. Griffith, and his securities,
full and sufficient discharges of all claims against him or them;
and the said court is also hereby authorised to hold the said pro-
perty, and receive the rents and profits thereof, or dispose of and
convey the same, or any part thereof, as they find most advanta-
geous to said county.
