LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Not to be con-
strued to re-
strict the right
of the Legisla-
ture to tax.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That nothing herein
contained shall be construed to restrict the right
of the Legislature at all times during the con-
tinuance of this act, to levy and collect such rea-
sonable tax upon the property of the corporation
as may comport with any general system of tax-
ation that may be adopted by this State.

To continue in
force.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That this act shall
be and continue in force from and after its pas-
sage, until the first day of January, eighteen
hundred and ninety, and until the end of the
next session of the General Assembly thereafter.

Banking for-
bid.

SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That nothing herein
contained shall be held to authorise the said cor-
poration to exercise any banking powers, or to
issue any notes, token or device to circulate as
currency.

To take effect.

SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the day of its passage.

CHAPTER 416.

Passed Febru-
ary 11, 1858.

AN ACT to incorporate a company to construct
a Bridge across Miles River in Talbot county,
and to authorise the County Commissioners to
levy a tax in said county.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, it has been represented to the General
Assembly of Maryland, by many citizens of Tal-
bot county, that their interest, and that of the
county would be much promoted by the con-
struction of a bridge across Miles River, at the
present site of the county ferry; Therefore,

pointed.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That Col. Edward Lloyd, Ken-
nedy R. Owen, Edward Lloyd, Jr., Henry C.
Tilghman, Charles Lowndes, Franklin Buchan-
an and James L. Martin, be and they are here-
by appointed Commissioners for the purpose here-
inafter mentioned, with power to supply any va-
