clerk of Circuit Court of the county in which said
applicant may reside, or if said applicant reside
in the city of Baltimore, then to the clerk of the
court of Common Picas of Baltimore, for a license
therefor; and upon such application, the said ap-
plicant shall state to said clerk on oath or affirma-
tion, to be administered by said clerk, the amount
of said applicant's stock of spirituous or fermented
liquors or lager beer, generally kept on hand by
him or the concern in which he is engaged, at the
principal season of sale, or if said applicant shall
not have been previously engaged in such trade
or business, the amount of such stock he expects
to keep as aforesaid, and if it shall appear from
such statement so made under oath as aforesaid,
that the amount of the applicant's stock in trade,
as aforesaid, does not or will not exceed five hun-
dred dollars, then the sum of twenty dollars shall
be demanded and received by said clerk from said
applicant, before granting the license applied for;
it more than five hundred, and not more than one
thousand dollars, then the sum of forty dollars;
if more than one thousand dollars, and not more
than two thousand dollars, then the sum of sixty
dollars; if more than two thousand dollars, and
not more than four thousand dollars, then the sum
of one hundred dollars; if more than four thou-
sand dollars, and not more than six thousand dol-
lars, then the sum of one hundred and twenty
dollars; if more than six thousand dollars, and
not more than ton thousand dollars, then the sum
of one hundred and fifty dollars; if more than
ten thousand dollars, and not more than twenty
thousand dollars, then the sum of one hundred
and seventy five dollars; if more than twenty
thousand dollars, and not more than thirty thou-
sand dollars, then the sum of two hundred dol-
lars; if more than thirty thousand dollars, then
the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars, shall
be demanded and received by said clerk, before
granting to the applicant the license applied for;

Provided, that the clerks aforesaid, shall in no
case issue a license under this section, for the sum
of twenty dollars, unless the applicant take out
in addition thereto, such license as is provided for
under the second section, of this act.
