CHAPTER 301.

Passed Febru-
ary 26, 1858.

AN ACT to regulate the Inspection of Tobacco
in the city of Baltimore, and to prescribe the
duties of the Inspectors, and for other pur-
poses.

Inspector to
take charge of
Tobacco, &c.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That any Inspector of Tobacco
who is now, or may hereafter be appointed by the
Governor to any of the warehouses in the city of
Baltimore, who shall have properly bonded and
duly qualified according to law, shall take charge
of all the Tobacco, Books, Furniture and appurte-
nances and effects, found in the warehouse to
which he may be appointed, and shall receipt to
his predecessor for the same.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That all Tobacco
landed or delivered at any of the warehouses in
the city of Baltimore, either for Inspection or
storage shall be taken charge of by the Inspector,
and the parties delivering the same shall DO en-
titled to receive, upon demand, the Inspector's re-
ceipt therefore.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That all Tobacco in-
spected in any of the warehouses, which may be
condemned or stayed shall be carefully cased up
and weighed, and the gross weight and tare en-
tered upon a book kept for that purpose, together
with the number of breaks in such hogsheads as
may be stayed, also the cause, whether for order,
scraps or wet, together with any other appropri-
ate remarks.

ditioned.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That all Tobacco
thus stayed shall with all convenient despatch be
shaken out, re-conditioned and packed under the
supervision of the Inspector or his deputy, and re-
weighed and entered upon the Inspection books as
all other Tobacco.

Charges to be
paid by owner
of Tobacco.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the several In-
spectors having charge of the Tobacco warehouses
in the city of Baltimore, shall charge for the use
of the Tobacco fund for reconditioning and pack-
ing all stayed Tobacco, the following prices: for
one or two breaks fifty cents; for three breaks,
seventy-five cents, and for a full stay the sum of
