LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Authorised to
employ teach-
ers.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That said Trustees
shall have full power to employ teachers, determ-
ine the amount of salaries, fix the price of tui-
tion, and do all other things necessary for the suc-
cessful prosecution of said Academy.

No sectarian
doctrines to be
taught.

Proviso.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That there shall be
no benefits or privileges allowed to one religious
denomination over others, and no sectarian doc-
trines taught in said school; Provided, that noth-
ing herein contained, shall he so construed to pro-
hibit the instruction of pupils in the general doc-
trines of Christianity.

ing subscribed
Comptroller to
issue warrant.

SEC. 7. And be if. enacted, That upon a certi-
ficate being filed by the said trustees or their suc-
cessors, under oath, with the Comptroller of the
Treasury, that the sum of three thousand dollars
has been subscribed in stock, by good and respon-
sible men, for the erection of buildings for the use
of said Academy, it shall be the duty of said
Comptroller, to issue his warrant to the Treasurer
for the payment of the sum of five hundred dol-
lars, to the said trustees or their successors in
office, to be used and expended by them for the
purpose of female education, and he shall annu-
ally issue his warrant to the Treasurer, upon the
order of the said trustees or their successors in
office, for the same amount.

Sum appro-
priated.

SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That the sum of five
hundred dollars, annually, be and the same is
hereby appropriated, out of any unappropriated
funds in the Treasury, for the purpose aforesaid.

In force.

SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from and after its passage.
