SEC. 7. And be it enacted. That this supplement
shall go into operation and effect from and after the
date of its passage.

CHAPTER 71.

Meeting.

AN ACT to authorize the Commissioners of Som-
erset county, to cause to be built a new jail in said
county.

6, 1856.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the Commissioners of Som-
erset county, be, and they are hereby authorized and
empowered, to cause to be erected or built, a new
jail in said county, if they shall believe that the wants
or necessities of the people require it, and levy the
cost thereof upon the assessable property of the
county.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted. That the said Commis-
sioners, or a majority of them, are authorized and
empowered to sell the present jail and Jot, and apply
the proceeds thereof, so far as they may be sufficient,
towards the purchase of a new lot and erection of a
new jail, if they shall deem it advisable so to do.

SEC 3. And be it enacted, That the plan of said
building or jail, as well as the materials with which
the same may be constructed, is hereby left to the
sound discretion of the said commissioners, or a ma-
jority of them, they having due regard to the objects
and purposes for which the said building is required

the sum of money contracted to be paid for the erec-
tion and completion of said building or jail, shall not
exceed twelve thousand dollars, and good and suffi-
cient bonds shall be taken by the said Commissioners
or a majority of them, from the party or parties con-
tracting to erect said building, in the name of the
County Commissioners of Somerset county, as a se-
