the third fundamental article of their association, to
such sum not exceeding three millions of dollars, as
may in their judgment better represent the true value
of the property of said company, than the assess-
ment of the said stock as now held and rated in
conformity to the provisions of the original act incor-
porating said company.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this act
shall take effect from the passage thereof.

AN ACT to incorporate "The Express Steam Nav-
igation Company."
|
|
|
Preamble.
|
WHEREAS, it has been represented to the General
Assembly, that the incorporating of a steam pas-
senger and freighting company, having for its ob-
ject the insuring of a speedy and safe conveyance
of passengers, and of the various products of the
farmer, merchant, mechanic, and manufacturer, to
and from market, would greatly promote the con-
venience of the people and benefit the agricultural
and other interests, enhance the value of real es-
tate, and tend to develop the agricultural resources
of a portion of a State; and it being represented to
the General Assembly that a number of persons
are willing to unite their funds for the purpose of
forming a company to effectuate these objects ;
Therefore,

Incorporated.
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That George Vickers, David C.
Blackiston, Isaac Parsons, John Gale, William P.
Francis and George D. S. Handy, of Kent county,
and Richard Semans and Doctor Samuel Wells, of
Cecil county, and all and every person and persons
who may become subscribers or stockholders accord-
ing to the mode hereinafter prescribed, their succes-
sors and assigns, shall be and they are hereby incor-
porated by the name of "The Express Steam Navi-
