332                               Joint Resolutions

Whereas, It would be in the best interests of our State and its
successful economy were our citizens to be re-apprised of the im-
portance of Forestry and of the continuing need for conservation
and reforestation of forest lands; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That March, 1956,
be designated as Forestry Month in our State, and that our citizens
be requested to take renewed interest in, and increased care of, by
conservationism and other salutary means, our priceless timber
lands and the tremendous physical and spiritual investment they
represent; and be it further

Resolved, That the Secretary of State be requested to forward a
copy of this resolution to the Governor, under the Great Seal of the
State, with the request that March, 1956, be proclaimed as State
Forestry Month.

(House Joint Resolution 5)

Joint Resolution requesting the Department of Budget and Procure-
ment and the Department of Mental Hygiene to study the farm
properties now operated by the Department of Mental Hygiene
and the possible consolidation of farming activities at the Central
Farm.

Whereas, During the course of an extended review of State
budgetary policies by the Committee on Taxation and Fiscal Matters,
the question was raised whether the farming activities of the Depart-
ment of Mental Hygiene should be concentrated at the Central Farm;
and

Whereas, The Department of Mental Hygiene now operates the
Central Farm and an additional farm at each institution, each of
which requires a supervisory staff; and

Whereas, Since these farms are not used for patient therapy, it.
might well be possible that a concentration of farming activities at
ihe Central Farm could produce equally as much milk and vegetables,
while at the same time resulting in a material saving in supervisory
and labor costs; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Depart-
ment of Mental Hygiene and the Department of Budget and Procure-
ment be requested to make a thorough study of the farming activities
of the Department of Mental Hygiene to ascertain whether they could.
