them prior to the closing of the polls on election day. All voters9
applications, medical certificates, notarial affidavits, ballot envelopes
and ballots shall be kept separate and apart from ballots cast at the
regular voting places and retained for six (6) months after the date
of election at which they were cast, unless prior to that time, the
Board shall be ordered by a court of competent jurisdiction, to keep
the same for any longer period. The several Boards are hereby
granted authority to appoint such numbers of temporary Judges of
Elections as said Boards may deem necessary to adequately and
promptly carry out the provisions of this sub-title.

161H. (Penalties). Any person who shall violate any of the pro-
visions of this sub-title shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to pay a
fine of not more than One Thousand Dollars ($1,000), or be sentenced
to imprisonment for not more than two years, or to both, in the
discretion of the Court.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That any and all public general
or public local laws, or any part or parts thereof, inconsistent with
the provisions of this Act, be and they are hereby repealed to the
extent of any such inconsistency; except that this Act shall not be
construed to repeal or modify any of the rights of persons who may
be qualified to vote by absentee ballot under the provisions of the
servicemen's absentee voting law, or to repeal or modify any of the
procedures provided for therein.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That if any sub-section, sub-
division, paragraph, sentence or clause of this Act is held invalid or
unconstitutional, such decision shall not affect the remaining por-
tions of this Act; it being the legislative intent that this Act shall
be considered severable.

Sec. 4. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1,1956.

CHAPTER 120
(House Bill 23)

AN ACT to add Section 176 to Article 89B of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1951 Edition and 1955 Supplement), title "State
Roads," said new section to follow immediately after Section 175
thereof and to be under the new sub-title "Special Tax Districts,"
providing for the payment of front-foot OR OTHER assessments
which have been levied by any special tax district

and which are unpaid at the time the State Roads Com-
mission may acquire the particular property for road purposes.
