(Senate Bill 115)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 48 of
Article 26 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1955 Supple-
ment), title "Courts", sub-title "Salaries of Judges", increasing
the salaries of the judges of the Court of Appeals and of the
several Circuit Courts of this State, including the judges of the
Supreme Bench of Baltimore City; and declaring that nothing
herein shall be construed to modify or affect in any manner the
provisions of Section 2 of Chapter 889 of the Acts of 1945 or the
provisions of Section 4 of Chapter 81 of the Acts of 1949.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 48 of Article 26 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1955 Supplement), title "Courts", sub-title "Salaries of Judges",
be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:

48. Salaries of judges.

(a)   Judges of Court of Appeals.—The salary of the chief judge
of the Court of Appeals shall be [twenty] twenty-two thousand
dollars [($20,000)3 ($22,000) per annum; the salary of each of the
associate judges of the Court of Appeals shall be [nineteen] twenty-
one thousand dollars [($19,000)] ($21,000) per annum.

(b)   Judges of Supreme Bench of Baltimore City.—The salary of
each of the several judges of the Supreme Bench of Baltimore City
shall be [nine thousand five hundred dollars ($9,500.00)] eleven
thousand five hundred dollars ($11,500.00) per annum.

(c)   Judges of first seven judicial circuits. The salary of each of
the judges of the several circuit courts of the first seven judicial
circuits shall be [thirteen] fifteen thousand dollars [($13,000.00)]
($15,000.00) per annum.

(d)   Salaries payable monthly.—All salaries herein provided for
shall be payable monthly.

Sec. 2 And be it further enacted, That nothing in this Act shall
be construed to modify or affect in any manner the provisions of
Section 2 of Chapter §89 of the Acts of 1945 or the provisions of
Section 4 of Chapter 81 of the Acts of 1949.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1956.
