Social Security Act and who are not specifically excluded therefrom
may elect to enter such new system, such conditions to include appro-
priate limitations on the period during which members of the existing
system may transfer to such new system; to provide for the transfer
to such new system of the reserves held in the existing system on
account of members who so transfer; provided, however, that the
benefits of any member of the existing system shall not be changed
by reason of his coverage under Social Security without his consent;
and provided further that except as this paragraph specifically pro-
vides otherwise, and except where inconsistent herewith, the pro-
visions of Section 6 (22) (a) concerning the existing system shall
apply to such new system.
(c) Until amended by ordinance, the presently existing pension
systems of the City shall remain in force.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1955.

CHAPTER 315
(Senate Bill 495)
AN ACT to repeal Section 38 (q) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1951 Edition and 1954 Supplement), title "Sheriffs",
sub-title "Compensation and Duties", and to enact a new Section
38 (q) in lieu thereof, to stand in the place and stead of the section
so repealed, relating to the Sheriff and Deputy Sheriffs of Queen
Anne's County, their compensation, duties and bond.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 38 (q) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
1951 Edition and 1954 Supplement), title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Com-
pensation and Duties", be and it is hereby repealed and that a new
Section 38 (q) be and it is hereby enacted to stand in the place and
stead of the section so repealed, to read as follows:
88 (q). The Sheriff of Queen Anne's County shall receive an
annual salary of Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000). He shall appoint
a Chief Deputy, who shall receive an annual salary of Twenty-seven
Hundred Dollars ($2,700). The Sheriff may appoint such Assistant
Deputy Sheriffs as the County Commissioners of said County may
approve, who shall be paid such compensation as the said Commis-
sioners shall prescribe. The said Commissioners may appoint an
Assistant Deputy Sheriff, who shall receive such compensation as
the said Commissioners shall prescribe, and be designated and
assigned to serve the Trial Magistrates in and for Queen Anne's
County, in lieu of a constable at large, and to execute his process,
orders and directions, and when not so engaged, to perform such
