($500.00) or more with certain exceptions, and eliminating book-
keeping systems therefrom.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 256 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Anne Arundel
County (1947 Edition), being Article 2 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland, title "Anne Arundel County", sub-title "County
Commissioners", sub-heading "Contracts", be and it is hereby re-
pealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
256. In contracting for any public work, the purchase of any
supplies or materials, [the installation of any system of bookkeeping
for any office or offices,] any expenditures for rent or lease of grounds
or buildings, or for any consideration, other than those hereinafter
exempted, involving an expenditure of [Three Hundred Dollars
($300.00)]

FIVE HUNDRED
DOLLARS ($500.00) or more, by the County Commissioners of
Anne Arundel County, or by the Anne Arundel County Sanitary
Commission, [the County Road Engineer of said County, the
Metropolitan Sewerage Commission of said County,] or any other
department or sub-department now established or which shall
be established in the future, or by any county officers embraced
or not embraced in a department or special commissions or boards,
or by any other authority operating under any sections of this Article,
proposals for the same shall be first advertised in two newspapers
published in the County having a general circulation therein, one of
which, if possible, shall be of opposite political faith from said Com-
missioners or a majority of them, once a week for two successive
weeks, specifying therein the date by which proposals must be sub-
mitted, which date must be one on which the Commissioners regu-
larly meet; and the contract for doing said work or furnishing said
supplies or materials or systems, space, grounds, buildings, etc., shall
be awarded by said Commissioners as provided for in Section 257
of this Article and in the mode and manner therein described. Pro-
vided, however, that repairs, replacements and additions to so-called
Patented Products or Systems'' may be exempted from the provi-
sions of this section at the discretion of the said Commissioners.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1955.
