Sec 4. And be it further enacted, That for the purpose of pay-
ing the interest on said notes and/or bonds and for redeeming said
notes and/or bonds as they mature, the County Commissioners of
Harford County shall annually levy a tax upon the assessable prop-
erty of said County sufficient to pay the annual interest on said
notes and/or bonds and to redeem said notes and/or bonds as they
become due until all of said notes and/or bonds shall mature and be
redeemed. The taxes so levied shall be collected in the same manner
as other taxes are levied and collected in said county.
SEC. 5. And he it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1955.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 12 of
Article 13 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title
"Bills of Exchange and Promissory Notes", sub-title "Legal Holi-
days", to extend the provisions of said Section concerning the
status of negotiable paper on half-holiday Saturdays to optional
banking business daysr AND REMOVING BALTIMORE AND
CAROLINE COUNTIES FROM LIST OF COUNTIES TO
WHICH SAID SECTION DOES NOT APPLY.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 12 of Article 13 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Bills of Exchange and Promissory Notes",
sub-title "Legal Holidays", be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
12. It shall be lawful for banks and bankers in the State of Mary-
land to close their doors for business at twelve o'clock noon on each
and every Saturday in the year, and every Saturday in the year after
twelve o'clock noon, shall, for all purposes whatever, so far as regards
the presenting for payment or acceptance and the protesting and
giving notice of the dishonor of bills of exchange, bank checks, drafts,
promissory notes and other negotiable paper, be a legal half-holiday,
and shall be treated and considered as the first day of the week,
commonly called Sunday [, and] . All such bills, checks, drafts [and]
, notes and other negotiable paper which, on their face, or under any
existing law shall be payable or presentable for acceptance or
payment on any half-holiday Saturday or optional business day shall
be deemed to be payable or presentable for acceptance or payment,
and notice of protest and dishonor thereof may be given on the next
succeeding secular or business day; provided, that checks and paper
payable at sight, or on demand, presentable for payment on a half-
