facias, such title to be that held by the judgment debtor at the time
of recording the judgment and authorizing the Judges of the
People's Court to designate the Deputy Chief Constable or any
other member of the staff to substitute for the Chief Constable in
his absence, death or disability.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland*

That Section 53 (g) of Article 52 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Justices of the Peace", sub-title "Judgments",
be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, and
that a new section be and it is hereby added to said Article, said new
section to be known as Section 53 (m), to follow immediately after
Section 53 (1) thereof, and all to read as follows:

53. (g) The sale of the defendant's interest in real or leasehold
property under any attachment of fieri facias issued out of the
People's Court of Baltimore City shall be valid; and a deed to said
property shall be given by the chief constable of the People's Court
of Baltimore City to the purchaser or purchasers thereof, which deed
shall be in the form set forth in Article 21 Section 80; said
[which]
deed shall [be f sufficient to] pass to the purchaser or purchasers
thereof
all the right, [tile] title and interest which the judgment
debtor had therein at the time of [such execution and sale thereof,
when] the recording of said judgment in accordance with sub-section
(b) of this Section, or at any time subsequent thereto to the time of
sale thereof; and
the said deed shall be recorded among the land
records of the clerks of the court where said land or property afore-
said lies.

(m) In the absence, death, or disability of the Chief Constable, the
Deputy Chief Constable, or any other member of the staff as may be
designated by the judges of the People's Court of Baltimore City,
shall have and exercise all of the powers, duties, and authorities
imposed by law upon the Chief Constable, upon complying with the
requisites of the preceding section as to bond. In order to preserve
the continuity of proceedings, any levy, execution, attachment, sale,
or other writ or process then in progress shall not lapse or be in
anywise affected by any such change or substitution of personnel, but
shall be performed by the Chief Constable or his substitute, or suc-
cessor, as the case may be, in the same manner as if there had been
no such change or substitution.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1955.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 2 of
Article 66 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition),
title "Mortgages", increasing the amount specified therein as to
