mission to them for endorsement. At any time prior to the issuance
of any such bonds the County Commissioners are hereby authorized
and directed to furnish to the Commission a sum not exceeding Five
Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00), which shall be repaid out of the first
available moneys derived from the sale of the first bonds issued,
if any.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1955.

(House Bill 499)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 1 of
Chapter 991 of the Acts of 1943, relating to salaries of the mem-
bers of the Howard County Metropolitan Commission.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 1 of Chapter 991 of the Acts of 1943, be, and the same
is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as fol-
lows:
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of this Act, the
Sanitary Districts created hereafter shall be under the jurisdiction
of a Commission of three persons, all of whom shall be appointed by
the Board of County Commissioners of Howard County, and all of
whom shall reside in Howard County, be resident taxpayers of said
County and qualified voters thereof. The term of each of the three
members shall be six years or until their successors are appointed
and have qualified, except that the first Commissioner named by said
Board of County Commissioners shall serve for two years, the second
for four years and the third for six years from the date of their ap-
pointments, and as the term of each Commissioner expires, his suc-
cessor shall be appointed by the Board of County Commissioners of
Howard County. Any vacancy in the personnel of the Commission
shall be filled by appointment by the Board of County Commissioners,
of Howard County and for the unexpired term. The Commission
shall elect one of its members as Chairman, and shall appoint, dis-
charge at pleasure and fix the compensation of a secretary-treasurer,
a chief engineer and such engineering, legal, clerical and other per-
sonnel and help, as from time to time the Commission may deem
necessary to carry out the provisions of this Act. The annual salary
of each of said Commissioners shall be as follows: The Chairman
shall receive an annual salary of [Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00),J
Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00), payable semi-annually; the other
members shall receive an annual salary of [One Hundred Dollars.
