ments hereunder to be made on or before May JUNE 1, [1918]
1955, upon which date the terms of office shall begin. No person shall
be appointed or continue in office as a member of said Commission
who holds any position of profit or trust under the Constitution or
laws of this State, or any political sub-division thereof.
All appointees
shall be residents and taxpayers of said Sanitary District and shall
serve for [six] four years, or until their successors are appointed
and have qualified [, and the term of office of each of the three
Commissioners of said*Sanitary District now in office and whose
term of office expires on the first day of May 1937, is hereby extended
to the first day of May 1939 and until their successors are appointed
and have qualified]. Any vacancy occurring at any time in the
personnel of the Commission shall be filled by the Governor for the
unexpired term [.] , and the appointee named to fill such vacancy
shall be from the County for which such vacancy exists; and if such
vacancy exists for one of the appointments made from nominations
of either said County Commissioners or County Council then the
appointment to fill such vacancy shall be made by the Governor from
nominations of such Commission or Council.
The annual salary of
the Chairman of said Commission shall be [Five thousand] forty-
Eight Hundred Dollars ($4800.00); of the Vice-Chairman, forty-
Two Hundred Dollars ($1200.00); and of the other members of said
Commission, Thirty-Six Hundred Dollars ($3600.00),
[and of one
of said Commissioners, not from the same County as the Chairman,
Six Thousand Eight Hundred Dollars, and for the third Commis-
sioner four Thousand Dollars,] all payable monthly. The Chairman
and [the Commissioner to receive Five Thousand Dollars shall be
designated by the Governor and the Commissioner so designated to
receive Six Thousand Eight Hundred Dollars shall give all necessary
time and attention to the duties of his office, shall supervise and
superintend the outside operations of said Commission, and] Vice-
Chairman
shall perform such [other] duties as the Commission
shall from time to time designate. The Commission, shall, IN JUNE
1955 AFTER THE SIX MEMBERS HAVE BEEN APPOINTED
AS HEREIN PROVIDED, AND IN JUNE EVERY foUR YEARS
THEREAFTER at its first meeting or as soon thereafter as possible
elect from among its members a Chairman and a Vice-Chairman,
one to be from Prince Georges'
GEORGE'S County and one to be
from Montgomery County, who shall serve for the duration of their
terms of office. If a vacancy exists in the position of Chairman or
Vice-Chairman, the Commission shall elect a new Chairman or
Vice-Chairman, as the occasion requires after the Commission
vacancy has been filled. The Commission shall
appoint, discharge
[at pleasure] and fix the compensation of a Secretary and a Treas-
urer, who shall not be the same person, a
