more than one hundred dollars ($100), and for a second and any sub-
sequent offenses shall be sentenced to pay a fine of not less than five
hundred dollars ($500) nor more than one thousand dollars ($1,000)
or undergo imprisonment for a period of not more than one (1) year,
or both in the discretion of the court.

SEC. 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, THAT THIS ACT
SHALL TAKE EFFECT JUNE 1, 1955.

(House Bill 186)
AN ACT to repeal Section 194 of Article 48A of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1951 Edition), title "Insurance", sub-title "Life,
Accident and Health Insurance", and to enact in lieu thereof a new
Section 194, said new section to follow immediately after Section
193, and to be titled "Payment of Insurance Without Letters of
Administration".
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 194 of Article 48A of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Insurance", sub-title "Life, Accident and
Health Insurance", be and the same is hereby repealed, and that a
new Section 194 be and the same is hereby enacted in lieu thereof, to
follow immediately after Section 193 of said Article, and to read as
follows:
194. [Whenever any individual residing in this State shall die
leaving no assets or property other than life insurance in an amount
not exceeding $150.00, it shall be lawful for the Company or As-
sociation in which such insurance may have been carried to pay the
amount of said policy to those otherwise entitled without the necessity
of the grant of letters testamentary or letters of administration,
