line for the taking or catching of crabs must secure a license.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 328 of Article 66C of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Natural Resources", sub-title "Crabs", be and
it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:

328. It shall be lawful for any person or persons to take or catch
crabs by scrape, dip net and trot line in any of the waters of the State
and in no other manner or by any other means, except that in Kent
and Queen Anne's Counties soft crabs may be taken by means of
hand-drawn net scrape, and in Anne Arundel County, except within
the waters of the Severn River, hard or soft crabs may be taken by
means of crab seines not exceeding fifty feet in length and provided
the seines are hauled up in the water and not on shore [.]; provided,
however, that non-residents of the State of Maryland are prohibited
from taking or catching crabs by use of a trot line-:
OR TROT LINES
EXCEEDING 100 YARDS IN LENGTH, (EXCEPT FROM A 'FOR
HIRE' BOAT OPERATED BY THE OWNER WHO IS PRESENT
ON THE BOAT AND IS LICENSED TO TAKE CRABS FOR
MARKET); AND PROVIDED FURTHER THAT NO TROT
LINE SHALL BE PLACED IN THE WATER IN SUCH MANNER
THAT THE LINE WOULD INTERSECT OR CROSS ANOTHER
LINE ALREADY PLACED IN THE WATER. Any resident of
Maryland using a trot line of a length greater than one hundred yards
shall be deemed to be taking crabs for market and shall first
secure a license as required for the taking or catching of crabs for
market.
Any person violating the provisions of this section shall,
upon conviction thereof, be fined not more than Fifty Dollars ($50.00)
for each such violation. The provisions of this section shall not apply
to Apes Hole, Johnson Creek, Marumisco Creek and little Anna-
messex River.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1,1955.
